How to Save Money at BEST VET 2025/LI’s #1 Home Pet Euthanasia/Pet Hospice Veterinarian, Dr. Alexis, Comforted Companions®️Veterinary Care

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I can't thank Dr. Alexis enough for the kindness and compassion she showed to both to me and my beloved Toby when I knew I had to say goodbye. She did everything she could to make sure Toby was relaxed and comfortable, and that nothing happened until I was ready. She was also very generous with providing advice, resources and little gifts to help me navigate this loss. It's a heartbreaking decision to say goodbye to a fur baby, but doing so with the aid of such a gentle, compassionate and loving person in your home really helps with finding a little bit of peace.

Dr. Alexis was so wonderful throughout the entire process of losing our sweet girl. She was available in the days leading up as such a wonderful support and allowed us to ask what felt like a million questions, responding with nothing but patience and kindness. Dr. Alexis came to pick up our sweet girl the morning after she passed with a beautiful basket and pink blanket. It was such a thoughtful and special touch that meant more to us than she could ever know. We could not have felt more comfortable with the decision to use Dr.Alexis and we knew our girl would be taken care of. She personally dropped off the ashes, as we were local, and gave us the most beautiful and thoughtful little gifts. From the very beginning of our experience with Dr.Alexis all the way to the end she was nothing but kind, patient, professional and gentle. I could not recommend her more to anyone who is at this difficult stage of their fur babies life. Thank you Dr.Alexis for everything🩷

Dr. Alexis was so kind, compassionate and patient. She helped me to make the most difficult decision and gave my 17 year old baby Haley a peaceful passing. Having Dr. Alexis there made it less stressful for my fur baby, myself and my family. She was very comforting and I’m so grateful to have found her. She really cares and has a heart of an angel to do the work that she does. I would recommend her to anyone looking for a peaceful at home passing for their beloved pet 🩷

Dr. Alexis went above and BEYOND. My boyfriend’s grandmother just had to put her beloved Shoogy down today unfortunately but she made sure that he was comfortable and felt safe. Dr.Alexis was so beyond compassionate and was full of empathy- we appreciated that she explained what she was doing every step of the way as well as sharing her own personal experiences with her own pets. Even after the fact, she had him in a beautiful basket with a pillow and blanket and even placed a cute little bouquet of flowers with him 🥺💔 I have NEVER seen anyone do this before. She treated him with such respect throughout the entire process. This type of situation is NEVER easy by any means but she did everything in her power to be as comforting as possible. For anyone going through this terrible situation, Dr. Alexis is by far the best person to contact. Thankyou for your services Dr.Alexis 🤍🕊️

Dr. Alexis is not only a true professional but one of the most caring and compassionate doctors that I have ever met. This was an extremely difficult decision to make for our baby, Bosco, who was 13 when we had to say goodbye. We had been in communication more than once with Dr. Alexis before we had made the final decision. She was extremely patient and understanding with us as well as guided us through the process and explained everything thoroughly . It felt sad as anything to say goodbye but she made it a peaceful process while celebrating his life. I cannot thank Dr. Alexis enough and if anyone ever needs end of life care for their baby, I would highly recommend her.
