How to Save Money at Bond Vet - Park Slope

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We had an excellent experience at bond vet, check in was quick and easy and we were seen shortly after arrival. Dr. Palmaro was kind and gentle with our kitty, taking care to make her feel comfortable and safe during the examination. He talked us through every step of the examination and treatment plan, and we left feeling relieved and reassured. Will definitely be returning with our other cat!!

I went to her regular Doc and so the call system was down and back up with a visit. As a “Very Concern” puppy mother I came to this location and explained the situation and they gladly took my information and handle the rest putting me at ease. Love the communication the young ladies had at the front desk and the doctor who very well explain the whole thing (a breakdown step by step). Cleanness, welcoming atmosphere (the vibe was on point). I would definitely continue visiting my new vet, Dr. Yu thank you for your awesome service and for accepting me at short notice.

I brought my senior chi in at the recommendation of my primary vet, who could not get me in for 2 weeks. The office is clean and welcoming. Staff are kind and patient. They were clear about next steps and cost. The vet contacted me about test results on her day off and made sure staff there were informed and there to support me. If I lived closer to this office and if I didn't already have a relationship with my vet, I would use Bond as my primary vet. It's nice to know they are there when I need them.

We had a wonderful visit! Our sweet senior pup was experiencing symptoms we thought may be uti. Her usual vet was booked up for weeks and we began to look around for any place that could see her. Actually another vet recommended that we look into Bond Vet. We were able to get an appointment for the next day (scheduled simply online!). Everyone was wonderful. Honest. Super transparent. Actually broke down the cost of everything line by line before anything happened. The cost was more reasonable than we feared! Absolutely recommend this place!

UPDATE: Bond Vet never responded to my emails per the request to be in contact in response to my review. Never followed up regarding the health of my dog they put in danger. It was clearly done in an effort to look good. Was a huge fan until this past week. I had a horrible experience with what clearly was a UTI as they’re very common in my dog. The vet didn’t pay attention to anything I had to say and kept pushing a surgery. Despite her thinking surgery was necessary she didn’t seem to think addressing blood in urine was important as it took them a week to get back to me with her prescription information, took two days and two more phone calls from me for them to update the information they had incorrect including them referring to my dog by the wrong name. When I first brought her to them they congratulated me for bringing her so early in the process and now she is peeing blood constantly and I had to bring her to an emergency vet. They continued to try and defend themselves including aggressively speaking over me on the phone despite the vet not reading the most updated records prior to the conversation and failed to acknowledge their several delays and mixups. Those who manage the phones are still great but the in-person vets and management were horrible and more focused on themselves than the pets they’re meant to care for.
