How to Save on Veterinary Costs at VCA Decatur Animal Hospital
Preventive care
Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.
Compare prescription pricing
Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.
Consider pet insurance
Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

Was referred by a family member and called because my dogs eye got scratched by a cat. Receptionist didn't seem to care at all even tho I said I'm worried about it getting infected and worse. She's told me the soonest I could get in was almost a month 2nd week of May. If this is how you treat emergency I would never take my pets here and will tell my family member to stop using you guys. Provide quality service and actually show you care. 3 weeks out when it can get infected is plain being ignorant.

I have been a patient of this vet since 1986. In late November 2023 I brought my cat in for a nail trim, ear cleaning - $35. Today I showed up for the same thing (5 months later) and I’m told it’s $69.90 to trim the cat’s nails (it is actually $42.00). There were 3 people behind the counter and 1 other person in the lobby and no one bothered to correct the very rude, unprofessional tech who was clearly wrong and very annoyed that I was there. When I called VCA Decatur 45 minutes later to confirm that the price is not $69.90 there was no apology for the gross misstatement of the fee nor the nasty attitude of the tech. The vet didn’t even ask if she could reschedule the appointment. Shameful that this vet office is no longer the kind, warm place it’s been for the past 30+ years.

Took my very sick cat here to get laxatives or a enima and acupuncture Dr.chinn sed my cat hasent pooped because their nothing in his stomach he was missing for 3 days and ten days in a treatment at this point so almkst 14 days no poop ,and eating good everyday two days later the little guy made a 7 inch long painful poop thanks to her no giving us stool softners .My cats on a regiment of sidatation medicine. I spifically called and asked if we should not give them to him before we take him they sed no give them so the cat was complelty sadated because he's on O I don't know abunch of sedation medications she bassicly sed he was completely paralyzed gave no real prognosis just a really condescending attitude. I sed I'd do the acupuncture she tossed those little needles ,about 10 of them in him faster then I could throw 3 darts at a dart board and then sed if one falls out dont worry about it what a joke.I dont think one of those little needles even went in to my little guy .Anyway yea this place is a joke the lady speaks in such a condescending posture I will never go back and advice anyone to find another vet 260 bucks for some medication we already had a bottle of no laxatives or enima leaving him to take a seriously huge and painful poop, and as for your response all I want to hear is sorry about your bad experience and the pain we put your cat threw and here is your money back that's the least you could do you can add it to your response otherwise we have nothing else to say. Thanks for nothing.and also he is grabbing at his cat toys now stretching out and I stood him up yesterday for a few minutes not bad for a paralyzed cat I would have put down if I had any faith in this lady .

Just saw Dr. Hoyt! First time at this animal hospital for me & Titan (my GSD of 13 weeks old). There are no words to describe how professional & clean this facility is…. They set the bar folks! Period! I wish I had known about them with my GSD Fonz (before he passed) because my experiences valley wide have been very lacking in satisfaction. VCA, however, exceeded my expectations (I’m old school at 57 years so this is saying a lot). Dr Hoyt was very friendly, knowledgeable, NOT IN A HURRY to shuffle us out, really took her time to examine & explain the VCA new client process, and just an overall, experienced and customer friendly individual! I’ll be a customer for life! Staff is also very friendly & knowledgeable; they really invest the time into their clients!!! I highly recommend this facility!!!
