How to Save Money at Affordable Animal Surgery

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

These guys were seriously a life saver. I had 2 puppies with 3 total cherry eyes and was in a financial bind at the moment. I have a good regular vet in town but surgery is expensive. I was calling around and someone suggested them. Not only did I save a bunch of money but they did a really good job. It makes sense if you think about it. They seem to do high volume surgeries, so they are probably very experienced and thus know how to get it done properly. (Cherry eyes can be a tricky surgery and techniques can vary based on different factors). Anyway, I am very grateful for them and I would feel confident that just because the price is lower doesn’t mean you’re sacrificing quality. Uzi, Mitzi and I all give 2 thumbs up! 👍🏽 👍🏽 🐾 🐾

Dr. Woo and her team are absolutely amazing! She helped save our cat Reddie by performing an emergency perineal urethrostomy on July 16th 2025. After 2 trips to the ER, several to his own veterinarian, several attempts to unblock him and a formal ultrasound all within 8 days, we knew we had little time to act quickly if we hoped to save his life. Thankfully, Dr. Woo was able to squeeze him in for what would be his last hope at survival. We followed Dr. Woo and his own veterinarian’s post-op instructions carefully. Reddie’s full recovery lasted for about two months, and during that time he had minimal freedom and he got lots of TLC. Almost 4 months later, we are thrilled to report that he didn’t just survive but that now he is thriving! Reddie is doing absolutely AMAZING post his life-saving perineal urethrostomy surgery this past July. He is thriving with his “new plumbing”, and I will never ever forget all Dr. Woo and her staff did to give him a second chance at life as were it not for her willingness to squeeze him in for his emergency PU, he would not still be here today. Thank you forever and always to Dr. Woo and the entire staff at Affordable Animal Surgery and the staff at AEC who cared for him during the night after his surgery.

I adopted a kitten who was in rough shape, and these guys literally saved his life. No drama, no upselling, no outrageous bills. Just real professionals who actually care about the animal first, not the invoice. The team at Affordable Animal Surgery walked me through every step, explained what my little guy needed, and handled the entire procedure with skill and compassion. You can tell they’re passionate about what they do. If you’re looking for a place that delivers top-tier care without trying to empty your wallet, this is the one. Affordable Animal Surgery is hands-down the best.

I can’t say enough good things about this clinic! Dr. Wu and her amazing team went above and beyond for my 1-year-old Cane Corso, Khaleesi. Another hospital quoted me $8,000 for surgery, but this clinic was not only affordable — they treated my baby with so much care and compassion. They got her in just 30 minutes after I called when they opened. I’m so thankful for the love and attention they gave her during such a scary time. I’ll be telling all my friends and family about this wonderful team!

This hospital took such good care of my 15 year old baby. She had a large mass removed and she looks amazing. I can't believe what they did to make her look and feel so much better. My whole family is so appreciative for dr woo and her staff. The front office girls too. So nice i highly recommend them to everyone. See you in the future with our baby luna. The prices are above right and affordable. Thank you so much. 💓
