How to Save Money at Centennial Hills Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Overall, I found the staff at the animal hospital to be great. However, the walk-in service was quite slow, which was frustrating. The doctor who treated my dog was nice and professional. My dog had a ruptured gland and I needed antibiotics and pain medication. I was charged around $25 per medication and $60 for the consultation. I'm not sure why I couldn't just get the medications without a consultation, but the doctor was helpful and set up a follow-up appointment, which I hope will go smoothly. During the follow-up appointment, the hospital was still busy, but they offered to see my pet without a room and were quick to attend to my pet's needs. I was surprised that they didn't charge me I figured they may just offer a discount for not using a room, but overall, I was impressed with the quality of customer service and care. This experience has made me decide to make this hospital my main veterinary care provider, as it felt like they prioritized quality care over exploiting their customers.

I am VERY happy that I found this animal hospital for access to care for my two corgis. One of my dogs was in need of his routine dental and after a bad experience at another vet office, I have been searching for a place that would handle my dogs with great care and this hospital went above and beyond my expectations! Huge thank you to Dr. O’Donoghue for taking care of my corgi during his dental procedure. From check in to the check out process, everything was seamless and the staff at this hospital took the time to make sure we were comfortable before leaving. I’m grateful to have found a hospital that truly cares about the well being of my fur babies.

I've been coming here since January. My dog has been having a really big allergy problem her dad also had the same problem and had to be put down. No one could figure out what was wrong until we had an appointment with Dr Arena. I have been taking my dog to the vet for the past 2 years and they have been putting her on prednisone and trying everything they could and it hasn't worked. I am so grateful for coming into contact with this doctor. Itis the first time in two years I walked into the vet with just a checkup instead of an emergency. Dr Arena lifted a ton of bricks off of my shoulder. Thank you Centennial Hills Animal Hospital!

Been taking my frenchie here for 4 yrs and boarded him this past week. They overworked him in the heat and had to sedate him and give IV fluids which they charged me 243$. I argued that they caused this and I shouldn’t be responsible for the care they caused. In their boarding agreement they showed me that they can treat him if necessary but nowhere in there does it say even if they are at fault that I have to pay. Take your dog somewhere else where the techs will actually take care of him

Brought my pet here because he was sick, vomiting and not eating. When the doctor came in I asked him if he suspected my puppy of Parvo and if we should do a test. Doctor said “No he looks great and is alert and I don’t believe he has Parvo. But we can take an x-ray if you have $300 to see if he swallowed anything.” I said no I don’t think he swallowed anything. Doctor said to bring him back in the morning for an X-ray if he is still sick after nausea meds. My dog was still absolutely sick the next morning so I brought him to a different vet and they immediately tested him and came back positive for Parvo. Don’t take your animal here, they’re just money hungry and don’t care. Waste of hundreds of dollars. Don’t bring your pet here.
