How to Save Money at Blue Diamond Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Long story. I went to xxxxx animal hospital for ear cropping. English is my second language so I am not good at listening and speaking. The Vet think I was good prey. because we are young couple and both of us English was no good. Suddenly, the Vet said that she heard my doberman has heart noisy. so she can't not do ear cropping. This is no good so I need to see dog cardiologist. she said you can have ear cropping after meet Cardiologist. She said It won't be difficult to get an appointment with this cardiologist. we were so scared. my dog has heart disease??? It was like a bolt from the blue because my wife has heart disease too and she got surgery 2years ago. TMI anyway, I called to Cardiologist to get an appointment while on the way home. they said first time appointment with cardiologist was $700 and asked me who was referral??? so I said Dr xxxxxx. she said your appointment is next week. I feel weird after I got home. I decided to see other Vets. First time I went to South Buffalo Springs Animal Hospital. I met 3 Vets. they did not hear any heart noisy. they said my dog is totally healthy. One of Vet recommended Blue Diamond Animal Hospital for Ear Cropping that's why I pick this Blue Diamond Animal Hospital. so I came Blude Diamond Hospital and 2 Vets did not hear any heart noisy include Dr. Saint Preux. 5 Vets said my dog heart is fine!!!!!!!!! It happened in one day. it was tough day. That's how I met Dr. Saint Preux. Therefore my doberman got Ear Cropping. Not only Dr. Saint Preux is the best of best for Ear Cropping but also soooooo nice, kind and gentle guy. Best guy I met last few year. He is really good take care of us. I could buy coffee, snack or more to show my thanks but I think this review is the best way to help him. I hope he succeeds as a veterinarian! After my doberman ear croppying, my friend's 2 doberman got Ear Cropping with Dr. Saint Preux as well. she is satisfy with doberman Ear Cropping too. Thank you for read this.

Our puppy was beautiful and healthy. Took her to get vaccinated and she developed demodectic mange from them weakening her immune system. Every day after her vaccinations she lost more and more weight, became skin and bones, she was always hungry and wanting to eat but was throwing up every time I gave her the medicine they gave me (clavamox). Clavamox is not a treatment for mange and they never gave us anything for her mange. They switched her medications and she got even worse at that point. She started yelping and crying while cramping up. I wasn’t sure what was causing it so we took her back, they wanted to give her an iv for nausea even though she wasn’t nauseous. We took her home and that night was uncontrollably cramping up and screaming in pain. It was heartbreaking to watch her die infront of us and she wasn’t going to make it through the night, so we brought her to a 24 hour emergency vet who recommended to put her to sleep being the medicine was only making things worse. This place killed my baby girl and we are heartbroken.

It’s been a couple months since I’ve taken my dog here and you could not pay me to take her back. My dog needs her anal glands squeezed about once every 2 months. I began taking her to Blue Diamond Animal Hospital when I moved, and ever since we started going there, her anal glands need to be done multiple times a month. There was a time where I had a feeling they didn’t do anything because she still seemed so uncomfortable, so I took her to a different vet on the same day, and they confirmed that her glands were not fully expressed and they took care of it. There was also a time where I heard my dog cry from the lobby. It wasn’t just a yelp, it was a wail. It still bothers me. I took her there one more time for her anal glands and ended up walking out and finding a new vet that same day because my dog was shaking and panting and trying to get out of the lobby. Going to the vet was never an issue until Blue Diamond. She’s a social dog. Loves people, other dogs, and even the vet. I take her to Buffalo Springs Animal Hospital now and she’s back to being excited at the vet and we’ve had no issues! They’re great! I’m not writing this for any freebies. I wouldn’t accept services from this office even if it was free. I’m writing this because I have a bad feeling about them and if you’ve worried about how well your dog is cared for there, I’d say it’s best to trust your gut. There are plenty of veterinary offices in the area to pick from. I’m sure not all of the employees there are bad, but I think one bad employee is enough when it comes to my dog. I’m a dog person and I just felt strongly about putting this out there for other dog people as well.

It took me 3 weeks to think of what to write. This is from my heart and as nice as I can get it given the circumstances. The overnight is the reason I lost my cat. They are extremely unorganized, they do not communicate. I have left printed instructions and yet they mistreated my baby. He came home dehydrated, malnourished and basically paralyzed and they never once called me nor told me anything when I picked him up. Two other vets were much better in care and hospitality when I tried to get him the care he needed and deserved. My cat was doing extremely better and I made the mistake of leaving him boarded with them. My other two cats, and those who I was going to recommend are no longer coming here. If I had the money to sue, I honestly would. Dr. Louis was the only good one, but she was never around. I would be wary with boarding. I wish all your loved pets well.

They were amazing and super compassionate when I had to bring in my foster kitten (who I was going to adopt) when she was dying and then had to be put down. I brought a couple of my other cats here because of how wonderful they were when the kitten died. The staff are all really nice, but the way it's run is all really impersonal and the a la carte type way of charging for surgeries like a neuter or dental extraction is really weird and gets expensive really really fast. A good vet, just prepare to spend a lot of money.
