How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have been with Banfield for several years, but am new to this office (Rainbow). We are currently seeing Dr Sharpe, who is an excellent communicator and does a great job with my Goldendoodle Charlie. I have no desire to see any other vet.

I have been a member of Banfield for almost 15 years. I have seen Dr. Sharpe off and on during that time, when she is at a hospital that is convenient for me. My review should reflect a 5 for Dr. Sharpe. She's been a rock for me and my family during some difficult times, and a joy for our furbabies. However, the front desk staff at this location receives a 2 on the worst days, a 3 on the best. They put people on hold without saying anything to them. They are rude and abrupt with conversations. When trying to make an appointment or reschedule, they act like they don't have your chart in front of them and know what is going on. When the call is closing up, they don't even have the courtesy of a small pleasantry by saying "Good bye", they just hang up on you. Dr Sharpe is the main reason I keep going here. The back office staff, the technicians who help our animals on a daily basis are friendly and know my animals immediately. But the front desk staff need to have either an attitude change or a career change. I don't want to deal with people like that in an emergency or emotional situation with my animals.

Dr Berday and her staff really care about your pet. They are professional and are very courteous. They make you feel comfortable about leaving your pet. They are in good hands. I referred my friend to go to Banfield and have Dr Berday treat her elderly dog Angel. I have saved so much money having an optimum wellness plan. Dr Berday treated my Princess and now she's caring for my dog Stormy. I will continue to referring my family and friends to Dr Berday at Banfield. Thank you, Debbie Roberts

First time here. Very convenient that I can bring a prescription to pick up food without my pet being seen. The staff from the back was busy bring friendly with all the clients and their pets, in and out of rooms. Clean and bright place! Except for the doom and gloom receptionist. She barely finishes her eye roll after getting off the phone and calls me up to assist me. She must have been having a bad day or something. She was obviously irritated that I had some questions. So I just waited until I could go in to the store to pick the food up and asked the very friendly store associates instead. I know working with the public sucks but come on. I was a quick in and out new client. You could have atleast smiled.

Hey there! So, my doggo had some serious dental issues, and he absolutely detests having his teeth brushed. Can you believe that? Haha! But, thanks to our amazing vets, he's doing much better now. They had to extract some of his teeth, but he's recovering like a champ. Now, about the cost, it can vary depending on your dog and how many teeth need to be extracted. So, I'm not sure if I can give you an exact figure. But, I've included how much I paid, just in case it helps.
