How to Save Money at UrgentVet

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This ER is very compassionate when it came to them taking care of my little Pomeranian Kong. The Nurse was awesome with him as the Doctor!! They did a good exam and X-rays to figure out what was wrong with him. Thanks to them and their kindness he finally has pain medication and seems to be more relaxed. Thanks guys I truly appreciate what you have done :)

Called prior to even leaving my house and explained my dog’s symptoms. She has suddenly began walking in circles and falling when she walked. I was told that I could bring her in for treatment. When I brought her in we met a lovely tech (her name on our receipt was Taylor) who was an angel the whole time. When the doctor came in (listed in the receipt as Dr. Haggard) I was told that she could not be treated and that she needed to go elsewhere for treatment. While this conversation was occurring my dog began to scream and drool excessively. The doctor did not even look at my dog when that began and just kept reiterating that we needed to go to a different clinic. We were given a few suggestions as to what could be causing the symptoms however were never given any information about possible recovery time or even if the possible diagnosis could be recovered from. In the end I made the decision (with the quality of my pets life in mind) to euthanize my dog. Through the entire 30 minutes that I was at this clinic I felt that the doctor was trying to get us out the door and it felt as if we were not truly being cared for. The tech, Taylor however went above and beyond to ensure that we felt as comfortable as possible while going through the euthanasia process, she even offered to sit with me while my pup passed which was greatly appreciated. I understand that it was the last couple hours before the clinic closed however that should not mean that I should be treated any different during such a scary moment. I hope that no one else has to experience the treatment that I received as it was unacceptable.

Like you walked into a relative's home - greeted with a smile, feeling welcomed and quickly made to feel comfortable. Absolutely great at what they do, very friendly and professional. Bedside manners out the roof. The place was immaculate and traffic free. And while a kiosk self check-in was provided, someone immediately popped in to check us in. The next morning I received a wellness check on my dog. A call that could have easily been automated. Nope...all completly done with REAL people. No bots!

They were awesome. It was close to closing time but they didn’t rush through the process. They took time to examine her throughly and talk with us. We weren’t pressured into expensive treatments only what was necessary. They called this morning to check on Cali and to see if we had any questions. I’m so glad they were there to help. She is resting well and doesn’t seem to be in pain.

I was camping and I arrived with my precious Bella on Sunday, May 4, 2025. She had collapse and I was an hour and a half away from Las Vegas and I got a hold of this emergency vet hospital. It was really hard to get a hold of anyone since it was a Sunday. They told me where they were located and I came in with Bella very limp. They immediately took her and tried to do chest compressions on her and trying to bring her back to life, but it was too late. My Bella died good doctor and the nurse showed such compassion towards me Which I appreciate it so much because this was so much more than dog to me. This was my baby. I highly recommend and although it’s been just a week I know that they tried their best to save my Bella. Thank you again so much for your staff being so compassionate.
