How to Save Money at Elko Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Our puppy got a foxtail stuck up his nose while we were in Great Basin National Park. We called Ely and then we were directed to Elko for services. They got us in as soon as we arrived. They communicated the entire time and called with updates on how our pup was doing. You can't go wrong with this vet! As a bonus everything was VERY reasonably priced. We didn't have to break the bank taking care of our pet.

Last night I had called the emergency line because our dog got struck by a vehicle. While I do understand you have a business to run I was told I wasn’t able to bring our dog in. Remind you our dog has never been seen there before just my mother in laws pets. When I asked if I can put the dog under my name with a new account I was told I could not do that and then was told that the closet emergency vet was SLC. But because my mother in laws account got sent to collection and her name was brought up our dog had to travel 3+ hours in pain not knowing the circumstances he was in.

July 18th 11:40 am the technician with long black hair and piercing was extremely rude in the human service and with our dog, I never had problems with the service in this clinic, on the contrary all the attendants were always great but this one is rude, msl moody and bad with humans and animals. If my dog wasn't sick I'd turn my back and tell her to go treat her bad mood somewhere... we pay a lot for veterinary care and don't deserve that kind of stress. she wouldn't let me talk or explain what happened to my dog and said if she wanted to know something she would ask me.. WTH **** special 5 stars thanks to Dr Timothy Worner DVM , Timothy was attentive and professional, explained the causes of our dog's problem and advised us on the best form of treatment. There are professionals and there are people who think they are professionals and in times of need we need real professionals just like Timothy t us, respect and professionalism . we are confident in our baby's recovery

"Expert Care for Your Pets Large and Small from the Vets Who Care" Care about what? Money? This place revealed its true colors after refusing to provide emergency care for my dog who was struck by a car. (There is no other place to go to in elko for after hours emergency vet). They cared more about a payment plan from over 8 years ago (on my parents account, not even on my name but since we're family they refuse service, even if I put the dog under my girlfriends name) then they did providing emergency care for a dog in need. We drove to SLC and got the care we needed, and that vet has received my payment in full the night of bringing my dog in. Im glad my money went somewhere other then a place who only looks at Dollars when determining wether or not to help an animal in pain. Also I will add now that the owner has responded, I DO NOT HAVE ANY BALANCES WITH YOU GUYS i have never taken an animal here, that is my parents account and completely separate from me but because I'm family your gonna deny service? even when we tried to put him under my girlfriends name you guys still denied service! Nice try though. Your right every business has vendors and employees to pay. And I gladly would have payed in full just like I did where we received care here in SLC. But because your scared you won't get your money you chose to deny us service. Don't try to justify being greedy. Also you did NOT give us any other options closer then SLC you informed us the closest emergency vet was in Salt Lake city.
