How to Save Money at Valle Verde Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This vet clinic is amazing! I’m so happy we found this clinic that is familiar with exotics. Doctor Cooper has been so helpful with the numerous rats we have brought in. It’s easy to get appointments right away, our surgery price was far less than the estimate given, and all the staff have been professional and seem experienced with rats.

I cannot speak more highly of Dr. Cooper and her staff at Valle Verde. It can be a real challenge in Albuquerque to find good avian care, but I won’t take my parrot to anyone else now. Dr. Cooper is extremely knowledgeable, thorough and careful with parrot care, and I feel very secure when my boy has visits with her, that he will be in safe hands. She takes the time to assess your bird, and creates a care plan based off of what she knows your bird can handle. My parrot is extremely anxious, and Dr. Cooper only does for him what she feels he can handle each appointment. For this, I am very grateful. I am an anxious wreck every time my boy needs to me seen at the vet (birds die very easily under stress) and Dr. Cooper and her staff treat me with compassion and kindness every time. Thank you to both Dr. Cooper and your wonderful staff for creating such a safe and trustworthy place for our kiddos! You’re the best!

Absolutely amazing vet. We kept a close eye on my dog for a few weeks and eventually, he wasn’t doing very well. My mom called last minute prior to closing and they happily took him in. Sadly, we had to put him to sleep and we did not feel rushed at all to say goodbye. They were very understanding even that the office was closed. Today, I checked my mail and got a card with staff signatures and inside had a piece of paper with my dogs paw print stamped and a few strands of his hair. This was a very hard experience for us, but they made it so much better. Thank you, Valle Verde.

Valle Verde Animal Hospital has been amazing with all my pets. My husky was very sick recently, and they were able to get me in next day. Staff is very professional and Dr. Chrissie Cooper took care of Kira right away. Emergency surgery was done, and they keep her at the hospital for 2 days. Staff saved the life of my beautiful dog and I will be always grateful. The price was very reasonable and I couldn't be more happy. Thank you very much for the wonderful service, and thank you for taking good care of Kira..

This vet is a heartless woman. My son brought his 13 year old dog in today with breathing problems, and he waited 40 minutes for the vet to come in. She said it could be one of two things, pneumonia or bronchitis and then I asked is the treatment the same for both she said yes, I said OK can we go ahead and start treatment she said no we have to get an x-ray three x-rays not one but three I asked why do we need to get x-rays if it’s the same treatment regardless of what the problem is. Here’s your answer she’s a crook that doesn’t have any compassion at all for animals. She’s only in it for the money. I had the money to pay and did $400 later. We took our dog home tonight, which is the same day of the visit and she died. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE!
