How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I recently took in a stray kitty I took in, and I am so thankful for the excellent care we received at Banfield. Shaunna was absolutely amazing, kind, patient, and very informative. She made sure I understood everything and answered all of my questions thoroughly. Dr. Padilla did a wonderful job caring for my kitty, and I felt very confident in the treatment she provided. They were able to get us in quickly, made the whole process smooth, and treated my kitty with compassion. I truly appreciate the level of service and care we received, and I highly recommend Banfield Pet Hospital for anyone looking for a team that goes above and beyond!!

We had dental work done for our cat. The staff was fabulous! Dr Parker, Lupita, the vet techs, and front staff were patient and helpful. They all did an excellent job, knew specifics about his breed, and treated him very well. He came out of surgery and was back to his old self within twenty four hours. Thank you!

I brought my cat in because I heard hear a clacking in his teeth and he made strange mouth movements. I had to Leave him at 7:30 a. M. and was told I would hear from the doctor after she examined him. I called at 4 p. M. Because I had not heard from her. I was told to come pick him up. When I got there the doctor told Me She could not look in his mouth because he pushed against her with his paws.. but that he definitely needed a tooth cleaning so she would do That and would then see what is going on in his mouth.he is 15 yrs old . I was charged $77.i said really you couldn’t have wrapped him in a towel And look in his mouth .. well , I could have she said!! This cat is very gentle I then took him to my usual vet go not only did he see a tooth that needed to be pulled but he was able to show me the tooth. And he gave him a shot of antibiotic and scheduled for a tooth extraction. This is how a good veterinarian should have handled this . Don’t go to Banfield!!

I was very clear my dog needed X-Rays on both front and back paws, whatever my wellness plan doesn’t cover I’ll pay. Dr. Parker and her team decided to just X-Ray his back legs and not do the front. I wasn’t told till an 1hr and 30mins into the appointment they only did the back, because that’s what his plan covered. I was also given completely different info on getting the pro heart and then it being too early. I will be cancelling and never returning. You cannot be trusted when you’re changing the care plan without speaking to the owner.

I had a wonderful experience at Banfield Pet Hospital with my Jayden who is 15 years old. The staff, especially Tom and Dr. Parker, were incredibly kind and understanding. They took the time to patiently listen to my concerns and talked me through the entire process of caring for my beloved pet. Their expertise and compassion made me feel reassured and confident in their care. My Pom received top-notch treatment, and I couldn’t be happier with the level of attention and love they provided. I highly recommend Banfield Pet Hospital to any pet owner seeking exceptional care for their furry family members. Thank you, Banfield, for taking such great care of my Pom!
