How to Save Money at Veterinary Emergency Group

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I don't even know where to begin, but we brought in my exotic pet (Rabbit) last night for Emergency care, they usually only see Dogs and Cats and they saw her immediately, with no hesitation and care and comfort to me and my animal the ENTIRE night! Mike and the doctor I forgot her name were outstanding! If I knew the name of the rest of the staff I would call them all out! These people are angels! I hope this place always stays like this! More places should have the bed side manner this place displays!

I can’t say enough good things about this place. I was so nervous when I arrived, not knowing if my little pups was going to be ok - or if I would even be able to afford his care. The entire staff was welcoming, calming, informative and just so generally kind. Through the entire process, they held my puppy, let me stay with him and kept us both from being nervous. A short while later, he was all better and back to his little mischief causing self. It was a wonderful experience, I literally cried happy tears on the way home, so thankful for the help and wonderfully positive experience. Heather was exceptionally amazing and the whole office was top notch. Here - the people matter, the pets matter and cleanliness and kindness were never overlooked. 10 star rating and an abundance of gratitude.

The secret is out! If your pet needs emergency care, this is the place. Small, friendly and inclusive! My 4 month old puppy fell and broke her leg. My anxiety and nerves were through the roof. I was scared, tired and hurting for my little girl. We started at Oradell. It was a 5 hour wait for emergency: forget it, I called VEG, they had no wait, and we went right over. When the name of your Vet is Peace, your anxiety is already down. Peace, Bruce and team took amazing care of Mocha. Pets and owners are together through everything, even during x-rays. They don’t take your pet away from you and ask you to wait. You are a part of the care team. Reducing a pets and pet parents anxiety is essential and their priority. Their communication and continuous updates was more than I could ask for. I knew Mocha was in the best hands. Thank you team. We are thankful for the care and compassion you provided us, and the after care with my calls. You deserve 10 stars ⭐️

The surgeon and staff saved my puppy’s life. Beyond that, they were unexpectedly warm, including me in every step of his care, right down to allowing me to watch surgery and 24/7 access to visit with him. Being part of the process made the most potentially harrowing time, a seminal experience that bonds us going forward in my puppy’s future. I am grateful for the care we received and I can confidently say other future patients are in the best hands.

I cannot say enough nice things about the VEG team. We brought our Charlie in this weekend and the nurses, techs & doctors showed nothing but compassion and care. Going into an emergency situation is scary in itself, but knowing that there is a team that cares for your dog like their own make it's so much better. Charlie had to stay overnight to be monitored & the team made sure to send us updates and pics of Charlie via text, which was WONDERFUL. It truly made us feel more relaxed knowing he was in good hands. Everyone took the time to explain everything to us & kept reassuring us. Prior to treatment, they send you a consent with treatment and pricing broken down. They understood our concerns and fears & "held our hand" every step of the way. Today, Charlie is home with us and is playing and eating again. We're officially on the mend! I cannot thank the VEG team enough - I hope I never have to see you again, but if we do ever have an emergency, we will never doubt where to go.
