How to Save Money at VCA Garden State Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I rarely write reviews, but I felt compelled to share the exceptional experience I’ve had with Garden State Veterinary Hospital in caring for my sweet dog, Oprah as she has battled a long term chronic illness. From day one, the entire team has been nothing short of extraordinary. The doctors are incredibly skilled and compassionate, and every member of the staff I've worked with consistently goes above and beyond, whether I’m calling with questions or visiting in person. I want to give special thanks to Dr. Amy and Rachel Sclarsky, as well as vet tech Alyssa Montanya. Their expertise, kindness, and unwavering dedication have made an enormous difference in Oprah's care and comfort. What truly sets this practice apart is the genuine love and attention they show to every animal. In fact, this is the only vet where my pup actually jumps out of the car, tail wagging, excited to see them—which speaks volumes about the trust and comfort they’ve created. If you’re looking for a veterinary team that treats your pet like their own, Garden State Veterinary Hospital is simply the best. 🐾❤️

I cannot begin to thank the veterinarians, vet techs, and the entire staff at VCA Garden State Animal Hospital for the love and care they have shown my Tank over the last few years. Sadly, they had to help Tanky cross the Rainbow Bridge this week, but they did it with so much love. Everyone there is so caring and concerned, not just about the pets, but the pet parents left behind. I cannot express how grateful I am for you all. Thank you. Kathleen Brust

I have been going to this animal hospital for over 10 years. They are organized, clean, friendly and professional. Usually, i just see which ever doctor is available since they are all good. But, yesterday I hit the JACKPOT for my miniature dachshund Brody because we were placed with the amazing Dr. Sarah Ball Garino for his annual visit. I was so touched by how kind, sweet and caring she was to my little best friend. I will specifically ask for her every time. By, the end of the visit instead of him hiding under my feet or in the corner shaking he was walking around the room like he owned the place. A+++ Dr. Ball thank you so much!

The staff and caring vets at VCA are terrific. My beloved cat Minka went to VCA every year for her check ups throughout her life, and the doctors always took time to answer my questions, give advice and dote on my sweet girl, even giving her kisses and commenting on how pretty she was! They made a stressful time (she never liked getting in her carrier) as pleasant as possible, even during the pandemic. This past January, when Minka was losing weight, they helped us navigate a challenging time and diagnosis, consulting with other specialist vets graciously as needed and offering support as it became clear that she was in a hospice situation towards the end. When it came time to let my sweet companion go, they treated us both with grace, care and gentle kindness. She passed peacefully and with dignity, and I am forever grateful for all the attention and humanity they bestowed on us during this painful time. I can’t say enough good things about this practice!. Special thanks to Dr. Patricia Fischer who attended to Minka the most over the years and helped us with her seasonal asthma, to Dr. Jennifer Lach who helped us with patience and professionalism during her final weeks of illness, and to Dr. Margaux Firestine who graciously and compassionately helped Minka pass on her final day. All of these amazing doctors and their assistants and staff took great care of my little one and I am so appreciative and thankful. Being a vet is not an easy profession, it’s so easy to criticize, but these doctors truly care and I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a quality practice for their family member pets.

Unfortunately, they are more interested with your wallet than your pet's well being. I took my senior cat two times there for sneezing and severe cold and the issue remains the same. The antibiotics they have prescribed made my cat sick and throw up in the first visit. I went there second time, and they prescribed another antibiotic, and remind you that you pay for doctor's visit EACH TIME. It seemed to work for a little bit, but the same issue came back within weeks. When I called, they recommended Xrays, and provided an estimate of $890 for X-rays and evaluation again. It's a shame that their prices astronomic, and their service does not work.
