How to Save Money at Animal Health Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have a small dog that is terrified of the vet. And before finding animal health clinic I had no idea how I was going to get her the care she needs because she wouldn’t let anyone she doesn’t know touch her. But since starting to come here, she is able to get her vaccines and all regular care without being scared someone will hurt her. And she’s made so much progress just in being able to go to the clinic. She not fearless, but she doesn’t spend our whole visit barking and she is not scared of her doctor. She’s much more confident when she is there! So if you have a fearful or anxious pet of any kind, this is a great place to start!

I am so blown away with the professionalism and friendliness of literally every single staff member. This is the best veterinary clinic in Fargo, hands down. Dr. Katie is amazing, her whole persona is so sweet and so calming. Everyone is so gentle with my boys and I know they appreciate it, even if it doesn’t seem like it! Thank you all so much! Keep doing exactly what you’re doing because it is absolutely working. We won’t be going anywhere else! Below is a photo of Calvin making happy biscuits 😸

So I had to wait 2weeks to get my cat in to see them, since she was having problems. My husband was out of town for work and I'm 8 months pregnant. It took me almost an hour trying to get my cat in her kennel and then it took a little longer to get to the clinic. I live across town and had to take back roads so as not to stress out my cat. I arrived about 10 minutes late and found my cat had peed all over in her kennel. I go to check in and they tell me I need to reschedule. There's nothing they will do. At this point I start to cry ( hormones) and they tell me they will only see me if it's urgent and that I'm going to pay extra for that service, otherwise I can do a new appointment in 2 weeks. I chose to reschedule due to the utter lack of willingness to help at all. I had told them when I arrived that she had peed, so the only thing they did was hand me a stack of paper towels. I'm 8 months pregnant and not supposed to be touching any of it, no gloves or help had been offered at all. They just watched me struggle with my pee soaked cat who was trying to get out, while I tried to clean her kennel. I went to Prairie Winds right after and they were amazing. I didn't care about paying extra for my pet but seeing as how that's the only thing Animal Health clinic seemed concerned with, why bother going back. I will never return and I would urge others to not do so as well, especially if you're pregnant. They didn't seem to care in the slightest. For shame.

I normally don’t post reviews but Animal Health Clinic is the best place I’ve been to in terms of pet care. If you have birds I highly recommend this place. They’re nice, the lobby is clean and comfortable, and the staff is amazingly friendly. Not to mention how good the vets are, they listen to your concerns and really give you a peace of mind as a worried pet parent! I took my Kiwi in today and was just blown away by how kind and gentle they were to my little budgie. I couldn't recommend this place enough!!! ❤️❤️

I always feel that my babies are in good hands here. One of my cats always huffs when getting his yearly check up, but the Doctor knows to just get it over with quickly, or to allow me to pet him while she checks him. Dr. Katie is amazing!
