How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Riverbank Animal Hospital
Preventive care
Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.
Compare prescription pricing
Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.
Consider pet insurance
Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

My sweet Moose is back to his normal self again after visiting here 🥹 he's on allergy shots every month now but he's not trying to rip his skin off so yayyy! The ladies here are amazing and treated Moose so good! He enjoyed all the love he got and I really appreciated them taking the time and explaining things to me concerning his issues even though they were very busy. They actually care and that makes a world of difference. This will be our vet for both our furbabies now ❤️ thanks you guys!

My 11 year old Ratt Terrier was diagnosed with diabetes 14 months ago. For all those pet parents with diabetic dogs or cats you know how overwhelming and a bit frightening it can be to learn how to take care of a pet with this disease. Dr. Julie Garren was kind, compassionate, and wonderfully patient with us while we tried to navigate our new "normal" with our little Diva. She educated us on everything "diabetes" from a new diet for Bailee, glucose curves, administering and mananging insulin dosages, the importance of consistant feeding times, and the new health challenges Bailee could possibly face with the diagnosis. Dr. Garren has had to perform surgery twice on Bailee, since her diagnosis, to remove bladder stones, caused by recurring UTI's, caused by the diabetes. Both surgeries were successful but Bailee's recovery with this last surgery has been long, so very frustrating, and there were times we wondered if she was going to pull through it. She absolutlely refused to eat for 3 weeks. Diabetic dogs MUST eat so they can be given their insulin. We had no choice but to syringe feed her which was heartbreaking. Dr. Garren tried EVERYTHING to help us to get this dog to eat and again was so kind and patient with all of our worrying. Bailee is back to her Diva ways and is doing great now. I just wanted to thank Dr. Garren again for all she has done for our pup and kitties over the years. She's great at what she does! Her staff is pretty awesome also!!! Great bunch of young ladies!!! Just wanted to add.......For all those people complaining about the $50 fee to be seen without an appointment. Have you ever had to take your dog to an emergency vet? Riverbank's $50 walk in fee is nothing!! Make an appointment. It's not difficult and you won't have to sit in the waiting room, for sometimes an hour or better, to have your pet seen. Riverbank is the most affordable clinic in Eastern NC. People bring their pets all the way from Havelock, New Bern, Jacksonville and surrounding areas because they are flexible with walk ins, provide great veterinarian care and are affordable!! We have been clients of Riverbank for over 20 years and we highly recommend them!!

I take all of my animals (6 dogs and a cat) here, and for good reason. They are patient and are willing to answer questions no matter how many. They're always improving their processes and services. The staff is friendly and truly cares about their patients. I have rescues who are anxious and struggle during their vet visits, but the staff always takes amazing, loving care of them!
