How to Save Money at Gulf Coast Veterinary Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
We went on April 24th to get our baby some shots and check out a lump under his jaw and the staff was so amazing and helpful not to mention very friendly. His bump ended up getting a little worse the next day so we came back and she fit him in her very busy schedule which me and my wife appreciated so much. They care about your pets here and this will definitely be our permanent spot

Dr. Lynn, Kyle, and Linda were so kind. I didn’t see the rest of the staff, but that group made such a sweet impression. I brought my dog in for an acute visit as a new patient, and they took time to get him comfortable and worked hard to ensure he got well again, charging a reasonable rate and demonstrating knowledge and care. I wish I could pick them up and move them with us when we have to PCS next year! *Picture of healthy and happy pup as proof

If you are military and going overseas, this is not the vet for you! I scheduled an appointment to get a EU Health certificate for my dog. I did it well in advance of the 10 day requirement just to make sure that I had everything I needed prior to the 10 day appointment. The vet gave me a list of problems on why this would be a challenge but that she would reach out to the USDA and make sure I was good to go. For context, I have to drive to Norfolk during the 10 day cert delivery, but I have an address so I’m not sure why that is a problem. She then scheduled my 10 day appointment for the next week. Cool, I leave. A couple hours later, I get a phone call that the vet can’t keep my 10 day appointment because she would be out of town. Ok so fast forward to the following week, I get a phone call from the receptionist that she can fit me in for 1:30 pm on the same day they cancelled my appointment. I told her I was confused bc they told me that she would be “out of town” and couldn’t do my health certificate. Then she fumbled the phone and apologized bc they forgot to take me off the books. What? Is the vet going to be there or not?? I told them how unprofessional my experience was and that it seems that they are blowing me off bc my situation requires leg work from the vet. If you are a veterinarian and will be out of town, wouldn’t that already be in the calendar so you can’t be booked?? And why did the vet herself tell me she would do it on that day? Military active duty has enough struggle trying to move with their pet and depend on vets for the help. I did everything in my power to make this as smooth a process as possible. I would have rather them be up front and honest rather than play games and waste my time.

They're always a delight to see. Very knowledgeable in everything and you never go away wondering what's wrong with your animal, all your babies. Dr. Standifer and all her staff are awesome. Kudos
