How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Old Town Veterinary Care

Preventive care

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

I've always a had good experience anytime I've needed Dr Snyder. And right now, my kitty is in recovery after an attack from another animal. She and her staff have been too kind helping me look after my cat over many days. They have helped to guide me nursing her back to healthy and as always, I learned a lot. Dr Snyder and the staff really care about animals, and they absolutely show that with every visit I've ever had over the years. They are also very informative and very friendly. I recommend Old Town Vet to anyone who ever asks for a vet. She is the BEST! I'm so grateful I found her.

I'm March of this year my precious Bruce a Chihuahua/Chinese Shar-Pei mix was degloved. Due to some reason with my last vet I needed a new one. I found Dr. Snyder online and her reviews sounded wonderful! So, when the doggie ER said Bruce needed regular wound care we called Old Town and they have been wonderful! I've fallen in love with the whole staff!!! They not only care for me but more importantly they care for my pet and make him comfortable!!! Dr. Snyder will share as much or as little as you want with you and truly knows/cares about animals! Since then I've referred my mother in law to them for an attack on her dog and the care and love they've shown her has been just as amazing! If you're looking for a vet who shows you and your pet the respect you deserve this is the place for you! I'm forever sold! 💖

I lost my dog’s heart worm prescription and called this vet to get another one written so my dog could get his medication. On the call, once they found out a family member of mine left a poor review, i was put on hold off and on for 20 minutes and was told they were denying me service because of the review. They then hung up on me, i called back, was put on hold for another 10 minutes, and was eventually told by another person (tyler) that they weren't gonna fill the order and i was hung up on when i asked why. I then went there myself and waited in the lobby for 20 minutes (even though i was the only one there) to finally talk to tyler again. He then told me they weren't going to do it and after asking multiple times he finally said it was partially because of the review (a review i didn't even leave). He said another reason they couldn't fill the order was cause of timing, which is fine, but they didn't tell me that until AFTER saying it was because of the review that was left. I then asked him if it was normal protocol to hang up on a customer after denying them service without explanation and he said “yea”. They punished me and my dog because they didn’t like the poor review that was left by my family member. This place severely lacks clarity and professionalism with their customers. Unless this place is your last resort, i would strongly advise not going here and finding anywhere else. I really hope that in the future they show a little more maturity and a little less pettiness.

We switched to this vet after moving to Independence. Got one of our dogs a full checkup and shots. Went to order heartworm meds on Chewy, which usually they will just contact the vet electronically and get prescription approval but it said our vet office required us to get a paper rx and mail it to chewy instead. So we called them to request a paper rx. They said no problem. Then they called us back again to verify which meds we wanted. Again, no problem. We went to pick it up and they said there was a $15 rx fee! They never once mentioned a fee during either phone call and I’ve never in all my life been charged by a vet just for writing a prescription! We’ll never go back there again. Guess they’re ok with losing a customer over an unnecessary fee. I was hoping to switch to someplace closer to home but we’ll just go back to our old vet in Blue Springs.

When my cat, little Opie, started going downhill within just a few days, I tried to get an appointment with our regular vet, but they were too busy to see him. When I called “Old Town Veterinary Clinic,” they were able to see him within a few hours. I was so relieved, and Dr. Snyder and the whole staff were friendly, attentive, and very compassionate. Dr Snyder gave Opie a thorough physical examine, and then did labs to check his kidney function, as she thought that may be the issue, and she was right. Opie’s kidneys were failing. They gave me options to decide what to do next. Opie was 18yrs old, and I could tell he was ready to cross the rainbow bridge. Dr Snyder and staff treated Opie with compassion and respect as they made him comfortable with a soft blanket to lay on as the Dr proceeded with the euthanasia procedure. They allowed me as much time as I needed to say good-bye to my little companion. I highly recommend Old Town and Dr Snyder and staff, and if I ever get another pet, I will definitely return. Thank you all so much for being there for us in this difficult time.
