How to Save Money at Main Street Veterinary Service
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
Dr Ron and his tech Alex LOVES cats! The care and knowledge, how he talks to your pets and treats them during examination is kind and loving. As if they were his own. His tech Alex is knowledgeable and is really good at communicating via phone or email. The prices for Treatment and exams are unmatched! I never thought I could find an excellent vet that doesn’t put me in debt! They always have availability within a few days and at the most a week. I will not take my kids anywhere else but to Ron and Alex! I love he only sees one client at a time and when it’s appointment time you and your kids are the only ones in the building. I appreciate how his office is a place of healing, comfort, facts and is not stressful as in other vet clinics. I am a paranoid cat mom and their patience and mindfulness of the situation is a rare find.

I can not begin to describe how exceptional our experience with Doctor Gaskin and his tech was, having just gotten our first kitty. This is both an amazing and stressful experience for me and my girlfriend. Doctor Gaskin was extremely understanding and knowledgeable when it came to answering all of our questions, He was absolutely wonderful with our buddy Milo as well. I am not a very good person as far as social skills and understanding people; but even I can tell the level of passion and care that Doctor Gaskin has for animals. I would recommend this vet to anyone with a furry friend. Edit: Dr. Gaskin and Alex recently helped us through a difficult time with our cat, He battled toxoplasmosis for around a month and a half. I am super grateful to Dr. Gaskin for being proactive and helping to save Milo's life, He gets even further recommendation from me.

This place is the best vet! They figured out a health issue that my cat had that no one else had figured out. Whenever I have taken my cat there, the doctor is always honest and straight to the point with how to care for my cat but you can tell he truly cares about the well being of the animals. His assistant Alex is also very helpful and super nice and kind as well. I needed referrals sent out for my cat and they were on top of it. Even people at other pet stores recommend him! If you want a vet that truly cares about their patients, then go here!

Hands down the most knowledgeable, caring and responsible vet I've met, and I've been to many! Does not sugar coat things, very direct, but I like that. My cats both needed a dental cleaning and extractions. The vet gave me a full tour of the clinic, including the surgery room. He has all the safety measures that the University of MN has, checking pulse, temperature, etc during surgery. And of course xray machine. He fully explains everything, which I love, I feel smarter each time I leave. Of all the vets I've seen I am at ease leaving my animals with him, and truth be told the only other clinic that made me feel that way was Blue Pearl Emergency. As long as he's in business I'll be taking my furry family to see him, and highly recommend him.

We have been going to Dr. Gaskin for almost 7 years. We drive over an hour because he is that good. He and his staff are very knowledgeable and keep you informed of the new best methods. He is very straight forward and that is much appreciated. If you are looking for a vet to tell you that you are the greatest owner, it's probably not Ron. He is going to tell you what you are doing wrong, but isn't that what you want from your vet? We always know that we are going to get excellent care and that he will treat our animals as if they were his own. I sometimes feel guilty because after living in California, I feel that I am underpaying for services. As long as Main Street Veterinary Service is open, our pets will be patients.
