How to Save Money at Pine City Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We use Pine City Animal Hospital for our 2 dogs and 1 cat. The staff and Veterinarians are honest and genuine and do a great job of explaining what is going on with the animals. We feel comfortable asking what is needed versus optional treatments. Highly recommend!

We Visited this vet yesterday for the 1st time. We had to put our beloved Yorkie Jaxon down. His back legs quit working, he was about 16 years old. They were fantastic. I called at 1 they got us in at 230. Very compassionate very caring and very knowledgeable about how difficult it is for people to put their pets down. I left feeling very sad but at peace. Thank you for your high quality prompt service.

Unfussy office, warm caring and supportive people. I chose this location because our puppy needed to establish care and our smaller town vet couldn't accommodate our needs for 5 months. Found extremely kind, and informative care that I felt completely in control of choosing and never felt like I was being led to unnecessary or expensive interventions. Even though our experience is routine care, we would send our friends! Vet absolutely took time with each patient and seemed to prioritize getting the entire team together behind doors to work together.

My elderly neighbor needed to take her 15 yr dog in to b put down. When she called to set up the appt, she was told to go to the back door. We got there early & there's 2 back doors. One of them was is the employee's door but, had a number on it for clients to call. Also, they know she uses a Walker because she's been there before. The last time also was to put her other dog down & they told her to come in the front door. She called the number & the lady said she'd be rt there. We already had been standing outside in the hot weather for no more than 15 minutes. The lady never came however, I can see several people walking around inside. I told my neighbor that I'm going to knock on the door. I did & after another 10 minutes of waiting, someone came to the door but, never helped my neighbor get her Walker up the step. They brought us into an examination room. After I put her dog on the table, I left per my neighbor's request. The ladies weren't compassionate, comforting, & in too much of a hurry. The door opens & the only one to come out was my neighbor. No staff went to this elderly woman to give her comfort. There was one female doctor to whom I recognize & she was at the back door, opened the door, gave her gunine & compassionate condolences then, helped my neighbor with Walker down the step. If I ever get a pet, I will never come back to this place again. I wasn't impressed many yrs ago & I'm not impressed now. Nor will I recommend this place. It has been going down hill for a long time. To which is unfortunate. Also, to note: one room was open. One of the ladies in back was starting to clean up what looks like an x-ray machine area. She had no gloves on & she picked up some instruments off of a tray & there was a folded green towel on the floor that was sitting on the floor for more than 20 minutes & was still there as I was leaving with my neighbor. A few people went by. No one picked it up. I also noticed how 2 ladies ladies interact with the people. Not compassionate. Not seeing g if they have any question. Not making sure they understand the instructions that we're given. To let them know they can call if they have any questions or concerns. It was I'll get the paperwork. Handed them the paperwork & before the people left, the workers left. One went on break. I saw her outside @ a small table when we left. The feel of the place was horrible. I felt like they didn't want to deal with us nor anybody. It was extremely uncomfortable. While I was waiting for my neighbor, there was one young foreign female doctor that stopped & asked if I've been helped. I said yes & that I'm waiting for my neighbor. She looked towards the closed examination room door, & gave her condolences to me. I said thank u.
