How to Save Money at Kenyon Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr Brad and his vet tech are the best. They took time to offer several options to treat our fir daughter. It impressed me that Dr Brad entered the room and introduced himself, shook my hand and then proceeded to introduce himself to our dog. This may seem unimportant but This is an action that local vets have not done.(Faribault vet clinic). He offered compassion for my 13 year old lab that made me feel so much better. I highly recommend Dr Brad and his staff. Thank you for caring for our fir daughter.

Dr. Born and staff were very compassionate and helpful during our dog’s last days. We will be back again when we are ready for a new family member. We drive an hour just to vet here, they are amazing!

I've experienced many different vets over my lifetime, but none compare to the passion and compassion of the staff at the Kenyon Vet Clinic. They have always been there to help us with our furry family members in the friendliest manner and have always shown pure love for what they do. And they know how to comfort and genuinely show that they care about you when you have to make the hard decisions. They treat you and your pets like family!

This is one of the best veterinary clinics I have ever been to! I work for a pet store chain where I have partnered with several vet clinics in Apple valley, Burnsville, Lakeville & Mankato as well. I’ve also visited both faribault veterinary clinics for my own personal pet needs. So I have a bit of experience with clinics in the area. **to clarify I do not partner with the Kenyon vet. This is my experience and review based off my personal pets I brought in** I stumbled upon this clinic by chance when researching clinics in my area to take a litter of puppies to get check ups and first round of shots. I had heard some good things about them from some of the clients that come through the store so decided I’d go ahead and give them a shot. So I loaded up all 6 puppies and headed in. Everyone was very kind and helpful in the office. The receptionist was attentive and greeted me as I walked through the door. The wait was a little long but I was explained to that they were a bit short staffed that day in which I didn’t really mind. The assistant was very nice and offered to help carry the puppies into the back as a kennel of 6 was quite heavy. When the vet came in he asked the normal questions and did a thorough check of each puppy head to tail and even weighed them. Together we got each of the puppies check up and shots done. He offered to print out a separate health check paper for each puppy so that I could give this to the puppies new families and even headed them with the names of each which was super helpful and very thoughtful! When I was all done I paid way less than what I was expecting (a different vet in the cities had charged me double this amount for 3 puppies with less care than what I got here) and the assistant helped me carry the puppies back to my car so we could head home. I will definitely be using this clinic for any future needs and referring them to anyone who has vet needs for their pets. These guys are awesome.

The staff are so kind and thorough. We have received wonderful care for several pets over the past few years. We encourage everyone we know to go here. The prices are so fair and the drive from Northfield is only about 22 minutes. Absolutely worth it!
