How to Save Money at Twin Cities Animal Rehabilitation + Sports Medicine Clinic - South
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I was highly impressed with the thoroughness and insightfulness of both the consultation and examination at Twin Cities Animal Rehab. Dr. Whaley demonstrated exceptional compassion and thoughtfulness as she guided me in developing a comprehensive plan for Daisy’s ongoing care. She carefully outlined alternative treatment options and provided clear, detailed explanations to ensure I fully understood my choices. The follow-up clinical summary was remarkably thorough, further solidifying my confidence in selecting this facility for Daisy’s pain management. The level of care and attention to detail exceeded my expectations, and I look forward to future visits as Daisy continues to improve.

We brought our 4 year old GSP to TCAR for a third opinion/evaluation of an elbow issue. We waited over 2 months and drove 1.5 hrs one way for this appointment, and we could not have been more impressed!! The communication with staff prior to the appointment was excellent. They are upfront about pricing, and we filled out several history forms prior to our appointment. Upon arrival we were immediately taken into an exam room. The facility was quiet and calm, no barking from boarding kennels in the back or stressed out/excited dogs in the waiting room. The evaluation began with an interview followed by an exam. The exam itself was extremely thorough, Dr. Erin was literally crawling around on the floor taking measurements of every single joint. Extra precautions were taken during the exam to avoid the area our dog is not always comfortable being handled (his paws). After the exam we were presented with several different treatment options, which included incredibly detailed explanations of each. The knowledge contained in Dr. Erin's brain is mind blowing. Truly impressive. We never felt rushed during or after the exam, or felt pressured to make a decision right in that moment. We were given estimates for all the opinions, as well as for supplements which they carry in-house. Vet tech Julia spent another 20 minutes at the end of the evaluation showing us exercises and stretches we would be doing as homework. By the time we drove home, we had already received an extremely detailed summary of our appointment which included direct links to videos for the exercises and stretches we were prescribed. Thank you TCAR for your knowledge and expertise! We finally feel like we may be able to move forward from this never ending elbow saga! If I could leave more than 5 stars in this review I would!!

If the aim is compassion then treating the animal would be a good start before taking $200 from the client. And having managers on staff that know how to tell clients how to get to the rehab facility would make a lot of sense. All I ask is for reasonableness.

Twin Cities Animal Rehab and Sports Medicine is amazing! I first went there with my Rottweiler Floyd. Floyd was my first sport dog and we were pursuing IPO. When he started showing lameness in a rear leg I was very concerned since he didn't typically show any pain. I scheduled an evaluation with Dr. Julia who immediately told me his quad muscles were a mess. In fact he didn't have muscle anymore, they were giant knots no longer able to relax. Dr. Julia created a plan to get him back to normal that involved breaking up the knots and then rebuilding strength. The techs are this clinic are fantastic!! They were so good making me feel comfortable and working Floyd thru all his exercises. Keep in mind this process took months of twice a week trips to the clinic for various procedures and we also had homework exercises. Rehabing a dog takes a village but it is so worth it!! Currently my Alapaha Blueblood Bulldog has a partial CCL tear in one knee. When she started exhibiting discomfort the only place I considered taking her was TCAR. Again she did 2 sessions of hydro treadmill for 6-7 weeks and at home exercises that increased weekly. We had a re-check with the doc last week, and we are down to once a week Hydro treadmill and some new at home exercises. My best little princess is down 2.5# which is a bonus that will benefit her life. I am so excited to see her stronger, and happier. If you have a dog who has been injured or is not moving the way they used to, this is the clinic and staff you want helping you. They can quickly tell you what is going on and develop a plan to fix it. You won't be disappointed.

So far it's been amazing. We were seen before surgery, where we recieved a definitive diagnoses and are now being seeing post-op for Rehabilitation of his CCL repair. The Vet has been extremely kind and gentle with Echo each time and fully explains everything that is recommended and what she has done to examine him and or treat him. Update: we did great for months and now we are back! It to awhile to get theappointment, just like before, but at the appt you aren't rushed, they do a thorough assessment. They are gentle and sweet and they expressed empathy with the fact we were having problems again. New plan of action in place and off we go!
