How to Save Money at BluePearl Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

On Friday morning I noticed something seemed wrong with my Pomeranian Pup Rocco. He was listless and wouldn’t eat. I saw blood on his fur and mouth. I called my vet and made an appointment right away. My vet looked Rocco over and did some blood work. She at that point said they were not equipped to handle the severity of what was happening as his labs were critical and showed internal bleeding. She then referred us to Blue Pearl in Arden Hills. We were taken in right away to Blue Pearl. They took Rocco to the back and immediately began supportive measures, as they began to look at all aspects and investigate what may be happening. I am amazed with the level of knowledge and professionalism by all staff. From the Receptionist to the Vet Techs to the Doctors and Surgeons. I felt very comfortable and confident with the high quality of care provided to Rocco. They were always available during his stay and addressed all my questions and concerns. My husband and i would like to express our gratitude and deepest thanks for getting Rocco home to us. Thank you for saving his life. Sincere Thanks, Ben, Andrea and Rocco

I was referred to Blue Pearl Arden Hills after my 10.5 year old rescue Amelia (past Amish breeding dog) needed speciality dental care and a cardiologist checkup beforehand. A previous dental cleaning went poorly at a small vet office (anesthesia caused or hastened heart arrhythmia). The entire Blue Pearl medical team spent a lot of time with both us before and after the dental procedure. I knew the cost estimate ahead of time and while it wasn't cheap Amelia deserves love and treatment. I couldn't place a value on all that Amelia has already endured in a pen producing puppies, and what it would mean to live pain free for the remainder of her life. Amelia is home and recovering. Her sweet personality is coming back now that her pain is getting better or reduced. Phillip her surrogate puppy son is happy she's returned as well. My pack is whole again.

On behalf of myself and my family I want to deeply thank the veterinarian (and techs!) who managed the care for our yellow lab, Darby on 03JUL2024. Her last name started with an M and she was the most kind, compassionate, thoughtful, thorough human being I have ever met. You made the most difficult day bearable. The respect that everyone at this facility showed us and our sweet dog at the end of his life was so touching. The follow up, the cards, the thoughtfulness was so touching and made this extremely sad event less painful. Thank you for showing us all dignity, but especially our dog!

I couldn’t be happier at the respect, love and care my dog received!! Everyone was wonderful. From explaining what they think is going on and to what the charges would be, before even proceeding. They were also so patient and kind with him. He was scared and they had him wagging his tail and being Happy. Which was a blessing, when he was so sick. We Thank them for there outstanding care!

The vets and their techs are absolutely some of the best I’ve seen. They are so kind and helpful and truly care about your relationship with your animals. The empathy and compassion they have is none I’ve seen before. They gave us a paw print and a little glass jar of our dogs fur and we’re just so kind. I’ve had to do this before at another animal hospital and wasn’t treated nearly as good, my dog either. I was very impressed and highly recommend going to BluePearl for any of your animals care.
