How to Save Money at Vetco Vaccination Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

my cat is not doing well. I took him here for the first time yesterday. they did his blood work - a 27 panel. AND THEN informed me AFTERWARDS that I couldn't get his labs back until Tuesday... Had I known that prior i Would've never agreed to do his bloodwork. I spent $380 and now today we're off to his actual veterinarian hospital. I I advise you to not go here . It's all about receiving more money and not about the actual care of the animal plus they handled him pretty badly and wouldn't let me comfort him during his exam I truly believe this vet should reimburse me my money. Nearly $400 later and I have no results or answers

The Vetco clinic is just a bunch of under-educated people all crammed into one aisle in the middle of Petco. The main veterinarian had an attitude and didn't know how to handle herself with a scared dog.. If your dog has anxiety, i would not recommend them. I have 2 dogs, one is fearful and the other is fine when it comes to the vet or getting shots. You would think that these people are used to dogs who don't want to be poked. I always prepare my dog with a muzzle (she has not bit anyone before but i like to stay safe) and she always goes last. Because my dog kept growling and laying down, (my husband held her while she dug her face into his chest), she refused to do a full check up, gave her the shots, but let me give my dog the oral vaccine. After all was said and done she told my husband that my dog "SHOULD" go to the vetco hospital next time and that she still needed some boosters in a month. Vetco hospital charges you triple as much and had no appointments in my area in the time that she needed her boosters so I made another appointment with vetco, it was accepted. 2 hours before her appointment, they call and tell me they're denying my dog service, that they REFERRED me to the vetco hospital and that she is a threat to the staff. (Along with other small lies like them saying THEY had to muzzle & restrain her, ect.) Now i have to pay for her vaccines all over again because she will not get her booster in time. So unprofessional. Real vets know how to deal with scared animals and my dog didnt do anything to anyone and couldnt because she was muzzled. Ive wasted time and money thanks to them. This would of been our 3rd year returning to vetco but I will never go back.

I'm leaving a two star because the doctor was nice but I made a wellness check for my puppy and to discuss his lack of eating. The doctor came in and did nothing but talk to me. He did not physically check my dog. He did not exam any part of my dog. Didn't even look in his ears or mouth. I paid $70 for nothing. I will not take my dog back to this vet.

I had a terrible experience start to finish, it is all about getting more money from people! My dogs both needed rabies vaccinations, but one has major anxiety issues (they’re both rescues so I don’t know what experience may have caused it) but I was told that I couldn’t hold or touch her while she was getting her shot, which doesn’t make sense, but she freaked out. They wanted us to put a muzzle on her and that wasn’t happening so they moved on to the other dog. His previous rabies vaccination expired in March, they were given that paperwork, but instead of the 3yr certificate he should’ve gotten I was EMAILED the 1yr certificate. The vet, Dr Ashley Ketter didn’t even say hello to us, let alone tell us the explanation as to why she gave a 1yr shot over the 3yr shot. This completely blows a hole in their treatment and vet visits (they will need shots in different years), which are already tough as the office is 2.5-3 hours away. I called the “contact us” phone number and was told I have to make an appointment at a clinic to get it resolved. Find another “vet” and store, these are terrible!
