How to Save Money at Parkview Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The staff is warm and friendly. Appointments are prompt. Vets are professional and knowledgeable. I had a few simple questions that were answered with ease. They have taken care of my cat since she was born.

I needed a new vet after my family vet retired. I wanted to have one established before I had a reason for them to need the vet. I had a really nice experience with Parkview long before needing a new vet when they let me bring a deceased cat that has been hit by a car in to be scanned for a chip. Unfortunately no chip but the staff was incredibly nice and respectful, even for just a deceased street cat. This experience led me to pick them as my fur babies' new vet. Back to the first visit. The vet tech that led us to the room and got us settled was very nice. She helped coax them out their cages and gave them love and attention to help calm them down. Dr. Ohseki who performed the exam and the vaccines (they were due for their rabies and distemper) was quick but thorough, not wanting to stress them out more but getting what needed to get done. My cats look incredibly alike, I am almost certain they are twins looking so similar and being littermates and a bonded pair. No one can tell them apart on the first try, Dr. Ohseki saw the little differences immediately which tells me his attention to detail is excellent. I am content in my choice of having Parkview as their vet.

First time client with sick dog. They are very accommodating, kind and professional. Did not push extra services and spoke plainly. You could really see how the people working there love animals and it’s expressed in how they treat pets and their humans.

I used to love this vet office until today. Had an appointment at 4:20 and hit traffic. I live an hour away. I called to let them know I’d be running late and they said they’d get me in at 4:30. I got there at 4:35, got my dog and toddler son out of the car and waited in line to be nastily told by Kim I missed my appointment and I wouldn’t be seen. Kim needs to find a new profession that she doesn’t work with people at all because she’s a very angry, bitter woman. Looks like I’ll be finding a new vet.

I'm in my 40s and my family has been going to Parkview since I was a child. My sisters and I have continued bringing our animals as adults. Things have gone downhill there since Dr Fear left years ago. Every time I've been in with my cat I've felt rushed out. He was diagnosed with cancer 2 yrs ago and had the same issue, I had so many questions and the vet who saw us was condescending and rude. The vet who saw him at his 1 yr check up after diagnosis was much kinder and spent time with me answering questions and didn't make me feel like an idiot or a waste of time. Sadly I had to put my boy down and that was the final straw with Parkview I woke up one morning 2 months ago and he was in horrible shape. I knew he needed to be let go and I was turned down by Parkview for euthanasia services even though he'd been under their care his entire 16 yrs on the earth. They were too busy. The only veterinarians who had ever taken care of him. I ended up at an emergency vet that morning and spent all of 20 minutes in their building. That 20 minutes included all the paperwork, payment, and the time needed to medicate him and say goodbye but Parkview couldn't give him that 20 minutes after 16 years of paying them to take care of him. I currently have 2 new kittens and our new vet, NMAH, has been incredible! I am disappointed I didn't move vets and get my boy better care with people who actually cared. Don't go to Parkview!!!! You are just $$$$$$ to them and they want you and your pet in and out. They will refuse you when you and your pet need it the most.
