How to Save Money at Macomb Veterinary Associates- NOW MERGED WITH ADVANCED ANIMAL HOSPITAL
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
These are the best vets in the area, without a doubt. Being a vet is IMPOSSIBLE to do perfectly, but it can be done excellently, and that's what the staff and docs at Macomb Veterinary Associates have achieved. It is no coincidence that both docs are from the best vet school in the world (MSU has been the gold standard in veterinary medicine forever). We've been to many in area, but NONE are better and few are even close to as good. We've had 3 cats and one dog see them. We lost the dog to cancer last month. We would've lost him in November or December of last year if doctor Meyers hadn't fought for him. Because of her we got our dog onto the cancer team at OVRS's schedule. Without their treatment our 10 year old labrador wouldn't have turned 11. He wouldn't have walked through the park everyday with us as spring changed to summer. He wouldn't have gotten back up to Traverse City for more long walks in the northern woods under the summer sun before he died. When it was time they were there: gracious, professional, and kind to the end, and beyond (actually). They went out of they're way for us and Marlowe. This is the vet-team you want to trust your pets with. These folks care, they knew our dog and cared about him, they cared about us. They'll care about your pet too. (Though, to be fair, our Marlowe was just about as sweet & friendly a labrador retriever as has ever lived, so, you know; the mean everyone loved him except one grumpy old man & one loud squirrel both at the park.) Did curbside visit. Doctor consulted by phone. It went well, considering I couldn't be with my furry kitten during the exam. Doctor was very efficient and not pushy. She only recommended what was needed and was able to explain why. Thank you!

I have a new puppy and was looking for a new vet. The staff were very friendly and the vet came out to talk to me about Pepper's visit. Made me feel really welcome and they took great care of Pepper. They have different plans to care for the first year of dog (shots, spaying, etc) and explained everything about the plans and also different pay options. I'm really glad I found Macomb Veterinary Services.

Deserves more like 0 stars. Called for an emergency appointment for my dog who was seen previously for an injured paw. Unfortunately I was 15mins late for the appointment and the office refused to see him although they knew it was an emergency. Instead they gave me a new appointment 2 days out!! For an emergency!!! This is our regular vet that both my dogs have been seeing from pups!! When seen for an issues the medication provided never seems to work the first go around and always requires me to have 2 or 3 visits sometimes..even for things as simple as an ear infection!!

Update to the review. Cancelled all wellness plans without any notification. Show up for a routine appointment and was handed a $350 bill. Literally no communication about this. We brought our puppy in after a misdiagnosis by another vet left him very sick. Macomb Veterinary has come through every time we have needed them. The puppy payment plan is a great perk and allows us to pay for all of the medical needs of our puppy throughout the year instead of in lump sums. The wait is never long and all the staff is so kind and is always eager to listen and explain when I come to appointments with 65181 questions!
