Writing this on behalf of my sister. She and her husband are doing the great loop and their dog is sick. They skipped part of their trip in order to make it to St Ignace and called the Vet's office for help. They were told "We don't take emergencies, take the dog to your vet." Well, their vet is in southern KY and they are on a boat. I have personally never had a vet's office be so uncaring that they didn't even make an attempt to help. You are in a tourist spot with lots of out of towners with animals that can get sick just like anyone else. Make an effort and don't be so rude. The ultimately had to sail down to Cheboygan and the vet's office down there was happy to help.

Share the experience of others passing through. We came by boat and needed a prescription for our dog for a UTI. This clinic was terrible to deal with. I understand that they might be busy but they were not helpful at all. Rude and dismissive over the phone. We ended up getting a prescription from our local vet and taking it to Bay Pharmacy who went over and above to help us!

As a tourist going to a vet is the last thing on your mind. Our dog hurt himself on our trip here and we reached out to this clinic for urgent help. They checked if we were existing clients and later mentioned they were full. As a practice doesn't an emergency trump regular visits, or at least take a look to get some basic meds going that can help with pain. I had not checked other reviews before calling, but saw other instances where tourists have been denied urgent/emergency services. Shame on this establishment. Does not have a heart and hence can never be a good vet.

My dog LOVES going to see Dr. Mary and everyone else at Mackinac Straits vet. It’s hard to keep him in the car when he sees his friends coming out to get him. As a dog mother, it always feels so good to see people who love and care about your dog as much as you do, so I feel so good about bringing him in here. I know he’s going to get the best care possible from honest professionals who genuinely care about him. He always receives the best care and I receive the best peace of mind. Disclaimer: The picture wasn’t technically taken at Mackinac Straits Vet, but it is my dog living his best life thanks to the care he receives from Dr. Mary.

Dr. Mary and staff are very knowledgeable, helpful and down to earth people. They have been so helpful to me in good times, and recently when we had to make the hard decision to let my sweet Annie go. I really feel it was hard for all of us. I have to drive an hour to see her, but I love how she is so professional, and caring. Definitely worth the drive to take care of my dogs.
