How to Save Money at Paint Creek Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

A week and a half ago, my 16-year-old baby had a bad accident. The first 16 hours were somewhat ok but then it just got progressively worse to the point she couldn’t walk, hold herself up and her legs were involuntarily spasming. I brought her here as a complete pessimist. I have been taken advantage of by a vet (financially and emotionally) for a dog and I have trust issues. In the first few moments of meeting Dr. Barkham, I knew I could trust him. He was very honest but also very fair in his recommendations for treatment at her age. I knew he wasn’t after the money- I could tell and from that moment on I knew I was in good hands. Gracie is now not only walking but I can’t keep her still. She’s had the zoomies, she uses her ramp, she plays, she eats, she can hold her bodily functions again…and she’s 16! I truly believe that because of Dr. Barkham’s knowledge, passion for what he does and human decency to just want to take care of the animals, my baby will get to live more life. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Dr Tom and his staff are the absolute best veterinarian clinic out there. They actually CARE about the animals, giving them the best care possible along with compassion and excellence. There is no other place I would want to take my girls. Thank you for everything you do. I’ve been to many veterinarians before and your team is by far the absolute best.

Years ago I used to bring my dog here they were always kind, knowledgeable, and reasonable. I stopped going because my dog passed away then I move 45 minutes away. Recently I decided to go back with our cat despite the drive. Im glad I did Dr Tom Jr was great he took his time to answer my questions and they are still reasonably priced as well. I would prefer to drive further to get good care for our pets then to stay local and not get adequate care. Paint creek Vet is a good place to take your fur babies! ❤️

I am so happy I found them! My fur baby kept me up all night whining and scratching his ear! I was almost positive he had an ear infection. I found this vet through a Google search that same night and called them first thing in the morning and they got me right in that morning! We didn't wait long and everybody was sooooo nice to me and my Carson! The receptionist, the nurses and the doctor was all GREAT! They explained everything I needed to know to treat my fur baby and I left feeling much better! And the prices were VERY reasonable!! We will definitely be back!

Edit: June 25th, 2024 I wanted to give this place another shot. However, due to my previous review which is below, I was told that I am no longer a client. I thought that was outrageous. Why wouldn’t you want a chance to fix your previous mistake? Especially if this was life threatening to my dog. Absolutely horrible!! First time visit today with my two dogs. I parked in the handicap spot because I am disabled and I had my two dogs in the trunk. When I went to let them out, they stepped in asphalt that was supposedly placed a few days ago in their parking lot. It got all over my two dogs. When the doctor was checking them out, he noticed it and made a joke about it. I thought he was going to help get it off considering how toxic asphalt is to both humans and dogs. This could have really injured my dogs, or even killed them. So now, here I am, pregnant and disabled, trying to get this off my dogs. Sure, the prices are reasonable here, but I feel like the care and customer service were underwhelming. I got bad vibes from the moment I walked in. Always trust your gut.
