How to Save Money at Midland Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I am very satisfied with the Midland Animal Clinic. All of the staff are polite, friendly, and knowledgeable. Our vet, Dr. Manly really cares about my dog’s health and I trust her implicitly. I can make appointments online and if I have a question, I get a prompt response.

This review is really for the front office staff. I'm leaving 2 stars because there's no problem with the clinic itself, but if the first faces you see and voices you speak to lack empathy, it doesn't matter how exceptional your vets are. I would give the front office no stars after this experience. I will also preface this by saying that I spoke directly with Dr. Mikols to provide this feedback verbally, but I think this is a big enough problem that a review is warranted. My parents have been loyal clients of MAC for around 6 years. Today, their Jack Russell terrier needed to be euthanized. It was an emergency. He was in incredible pain. He took a turn overnight. We knew it was coming, to some degree, but not like this. There was a member of the family who wasn't ready to let go, and unfortunately, ultimately, time was not on our side. My mom called the office around 10:30 AM to let them know that the dog needed to be euthanized immediately because he was clearly suffering. The person she spoke with said "Well, since we haven't seen him in a year, he has to have an end-of-life exam first, which will be $65 and we can't do that until 3 PM." Excuse me? When a client calls in tears stating that their dog is absolutely dying a sad and painful death, why WOULDN'T the immediate response be "I am so sorry. Let's get you in right away. Here is an estimate of the cost."? In my experience, there is always an office visit or exam fee for a euthanasia--it doesn't matter how long it's been since a pet was seen. Why even mention that? Why was it framed as "Well, SINCE WE HAVEN'T SEEN YOU THERE IS AN ADDITIONAL FEE"--like a punishment. The audacity of that is just so beyond comprehension to me. And then the dog got worse, and we couldn't wait until 3 PM, and it took my mom calling in absolute hysterics for the office to find a way to get them in more quickly. I am just so incredibly disappointed by the situation--watching my mom shaking and hyperventilating while cradling her 15-year old dog who was struggling to breathe, choking on his own vomit, and bleeding out of his rear end, trying to explain to the front office that this was urgent. Have some tact. We lost a member of the family today, and it was traumatic enough without the attitude.

They get you in a room right away, so animals are not interacting with each other. I can get my dogs meds, shots, dog tags, license, and more right at the desk. The individuals are very professional and nice with my dog. I love the follow through with a phone call regarding labs and other procedures. Thumbs up!

My own vet couldn't get me in for 4 days (will be looking into changing to someone who can take care of their own patients when they are acutely sick), but this urgent care clinic - recommended by another vet practice - was able to see my cat and help. *UPDATE* 02/2021 With patience and hard work, Dr Seibert and the staff at MAC have helped my cat to heal. She is almost back to normal, but will need continued treatment and I'm happy with that! I'm so pleased that I've committed to this facility as our veterinary home, even though it's almost a half hour drive, I believe it is worth it! My pets are in good hands! Thank you, MAC! *UPDATE* July 2023 My beloved Peachy-cat passed suddenly in January, just as I arrived at the clinic for an emergency appointment. Dr Seibert (and staff) were amazing in comforting me in my distress. And this month I just finished yearly appointment for my other cat (sitting inbox🙄) and, once again, very pleased with the care given. Recommend this practice 100%!

Wonderful staff. I felt comfortable having Cucui being taken care of by them. I will be returning next year for his annual check-up. He's been a patient since 2021.Excellent service. We were in and out in less than 30 minutes.
