How to Save Money at Garden City Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The staff at Garden City Veterinary Hospital is amazing! They got both of my boys in quickly and took great care of them. Our first visit was on a Saturday evening, I was a new patient calling late on a Saturday and they said "sure come in" I was so grateful. My pitbull was attacked during a walk—they patched him up with love, treats, bandages, and antibiotics. The second time, my chihuahua had a serious liver infection, and we were scared we might lose him. Thanks to their care, he's on his way to a full recovery. I’ll keep making the drive from Downriver because the compassion and quality here are worth it.

I appreciate Dr. Abdullah and Dr. Harjeet both great respectful knowledgeable veterinarians!! Also his nurse she is so nice!! I trust her so much. She always took care of my babies. My 1st cat had squamous cell carcinoma cancer. He was my everything my best freind for 14 years!! Unfortunately his cancer was spreading rapidly. I was in out of the vet. He tired so hard to stay with me. It was the hardest thing in my life to say goodbye to my MONEBOY !! But I know in my heart I made the right choice. He passed in good hands peacefully on 12/26/2025 @12:08 pm Rip in peace my sweet boy!! I know your off to cat college in heaven. Now my other boy Bootise was sick for bout 3 days I knew something was wrong. So I called the vet. They got him in so quick like 40 mins after I called. Turn out my boy Bootsie was having a blockage. Which come to find out after x-rays and bloodwork he was clog up. Thank god I had the best veterinary clinic in Michigan get him back to normal. They had to put a catheter in him to try to get him back to normal. Well here it is week later. And he doing a lot better. I have to give him medicine 2x a day which ain’t fun. But it has to be done. He is now on prescription food and making a full recovery!! Thanks garden city animal hospital from all the nurses and Doctors. I want to say Thankyou again for all your help in my time of need!! I will definitely return to this veterinarian. I would give this place 100 stars if I could 10/10 Thankyou, Sincerely Chris

My cat has been experiencing health issues so we have made quite a few visits. I’ve met about 7 different staff members through out these visits. Every single vet and staff member I interacted with here was super kind. They were able to get him in quickly and come up with a plan to help. I really appreciated the reassurance I was given when I was worried about leaving him there for treatment even though I knew he was in good hands with fellow animal lovers. I highly recommend this place and will continue to bring my cat here!

5 Star Experience from the entire GC Vet Hospital. Just took our 8 week old kittens to see the doctor for their 1st check ups and shots. Started with a phone call and the very friendly receptionist was able to get us a same day appointment. The Staff were all remarkable and wanted to greet our kittens right when we arrived. The Doctor was very compationate & got to business.

It has been one year to the day that my beloved cat, Shadow died, and I will forever make sure that everyone knows that Garden City Vet in Garden City, MI is terrible. They are only worried about taking your money, they have no comforting bedside manner, and the only reason that they are at 4 stars is because they beg everyone to give them a positive review, even though their services on pets are sub par. I cannot wait for the day that this dingy place closes down.
