How to Save Money at Surrey Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This is really unfortunate. I’ve been a client for 12 years and my husband 20 years, give or take. We take all our animals here, never had a problem. They also always helped us in a pinch and have reasonable pricing. Friday I called to get some pricing on putting a family pet down and asked if I needed a appointment. Lady told me that I didn’t need a appointment that they fit people in same day for that situation. I told her that it was going to be in the next day or so, knowing they are open on Saturdays. So we made it through the night with our 16 year old dog and morning came and it was time. I called and was surprised that they had a new system, system pretty much said text or come in. So I sent a text, no reply. So we loaded buck up and headed that way. Got there, they were busy like usual. Knew it was going to be a wait and we were okay with that. It’s always a long wait there. Never stopped us from doing business with them. So we go in and my husband signed in and I noticed that another lady went up to the computer, so I nicely ask/stated, we just signed in but before we wait, we need to have out dog put down, do you have time to squeeze us in today. She looked at her computer all nervously and said no, we’re too busy. Never asked our situation, name or nothing. Please tell me why in the hell you would tell someone that they get you in same day then the next day you get turned away! A loyal, long term customer. You’ve lost all my business and it’s so unfortunate. Its unbelievable and sad. Thankfully Mt Pleasant Animal Hospital helped us and we’re shocked about what surrey vet did! After all the years, I think it’s safe to say, take your time and money somewhere else!

Everyone around here knows that Surrey Vet is the best. They aren't always easy to get into. The prices are not horrible, like many others. The doctor and staff is so knowledgeable. They try to accommodate your needs, being time or whatever situation. I am very happy with the home town personal feel. They love and care about your pets.

This place is so compassionate the staff there gave me much needed respect and time with my 13 yr old dog that recently had to be euthanized. His ashes came back in a beautiful ern with a personalized card signed by each staff member, giving their condolences to me about my beloved family member. Thank you Surrey vet clinic A+ rating from me.

Although I was not a current client, Surrey vet clinic squeezed me in an hour after I called when my cat was having some very concerning symptoms. They were all super friendly and helpful and explained everything in detail. They were very thorough and gave me the option of adding on extra tests only if I chose to. I was able to get all of the meds and food I needed right there without having to make another trip anywhere. I would highly recommend them!

We moved out of state then moved back a few years later. Our old vet said that it had been so long we would be considered new patients and that they were not accepting no new patients. I found a vet to take our babies to get shots but this vet was rude and had no bedside manner. I did not care for how he handle our pups. Sassy had some bad teeth and we found surrey and we took her here. The vets were all so nice and handled her well. They got us in quickly with a good wait time. Sassy seemed well cared for while she was there. 100% this is where we take our dogs now!. Great people and great service!
