How to Save Money at Southside Veterinary Clinic with Bed & Biscuit Boarding

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Sadly, this pet clinic is going through a serious transition. Beware of false information from the new hire! ( like in house on the invoice is not always meaning in house! Dr. Jay and office manager confirmed that my dogs fungal test was sent out and needed 5-7 days for the results. It took 3 weeks to get the results!) Lots of broken promises and to assume "no news is good news" is an unfair protocol for any kind of medical or veterinarian's clinic!! The phone lines are frequently busy and in the event of an emergency...you best have a backup plan for helping to save your pets health!

This weekend, my dog was supposed to stay in the Southside vet kennel from Saturday ( I dropped her off before 12 noon ) to Monday morning, I actually made the time to pick her up earlier, which was today ( Sunday) at 5. The girl told me my dog hadn’t been fed yet today. I told her it was fine for today and I would feed her when I get home. When I got home, I realized that they hadn’t fed my dog neither Saturday for dinner nor Sunday at all. My Dog only eat once daily. On Sunday, when I picked her up, it was after 5 and she hadn’t been fed. For almost 30 hours, my dog had no meals at all. I’m speechless right now. I am so furious and disgusted for the fact that my dog had gone through 30 hours without any meals and a very little water or No water neither at all. That’s how you take care of peoples dogs. Thank god I picked her up today, otherwise, she could have been no food for more hours. I recorded the video of my dog drunk water for more than 1 minute when she got home and showing how thirsty she was. Unfortunately I can’t upload the video. Feeding the meals for dogs that stay in your kennel is the most important thing to do. How could you people miss that and to starve the dog (s). Is that the way how you charge people for taking care of the dog(s)? One thing I would like to add to my review: what just happened to my dog at Southside Vet, I m definitely considered it was an animal abuse no matter if it was intentional or not. The dogs cant talk, they have no ability to fight for their survival rights daily and to tell the owners how they are treated in the kennel, they can not be protected when the Kennel people like the Southside Vet abuse them (not to give them food to eat and water to drink.). This is more than just being irresponsible and incompetent, this is the cruelty to animals and it needs to be reported to the animal protection organization.

After 25 calls to vets around our area, they were the only one that could take my beagle in at last minute! She was in stage 3 kidney failure. They took their time and cared for her very well. As the week went on they got me in again. They were awesome. Thank you very very much!

I had an appointment for my 8 week old kitten. I expressed my concerns as she was around 2 sick kittens who passed. Bloated tummy and loose stool. Vet rushed through my appointment because (receptionist admitted) he was late for a meeting. NO STOOL SAMPLE. Sent me on my way after a shot of antibiotics and a vial of amoxicillin. I do not reccomend this vet if you are looking for quality care. I had a sneaking suspicion that my pet was not doing good after this interaction and found another vet for a second opinion. My kitten had worms..

I went there in the worst day of my life to put my best friend to sleep. They were so kind and considerate. They let me stay with her as long as I wanted. A tech brought me in tissues as I sobbed. They were very kind, gentle and compassionate through the whole situation. Thank you for being their for my girl and my hubby and I during one of the hardest things we've ever had to go through.
