How to Save Money at Copper Country Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I am not impressed with how this vet is charging their clients. I brought my dog in to get looked at. He needed an antibiotic so I got it. They did not appropriately dispense the antibiotic and shorted me half of the doses. When I called them to tell them I ran out when I should not have they dispensed the other half of the doses (after having me confirm that I was giving the correct dose) but charged me the full amount for the second half. The employee that checked me out stated “it’s because we can’t confirm that the full amount wasn’t given”. If I had been given the full amount on the bottle on the right I would not have run out and needed the other half of the bottle on the left.

Copper country vet has been great to both me and my pets. Their vets and support staff are immensely knowledgeable and go above and beyond to make sure all pets are well cared for

Copper Country Vet Clinic is nothing more than a shiny new bandaid station. This place is only willing and only capable of performing the most basic and routine procedures. If you only need an appointment for monthly preventatives like flea, tick and heartworm, they're more than willing to take your money. If your pet is injured or sick and requires anything at or above urgent level, take them elsewhere. They're just not interested or willing to put forth the time and effort into your pet, when there's an appointment for flea meds in the next exam room. The staff is woefully undereducated, under experienced, and has zero ambition to properly diagnose anything outside of a routine issue. I personally find it absolutely absurd that I was told that I had to wait until the vets were done eating their ham sandwich on lunch break before I could gain access to their infinite wisdom and get advice on my dying pet. This is after the pet was there for seven hours a few days before. I also find it equally absurd that when I refute that idea, I am contacted back by the office manager who informs me that I am now forbade from their property. Yes, I did curse, because I said their service was sh**ty. Well...it is. Per CCVC website, office manager states this "... ultimate goal in veterinary medicine is to give the community access to gold standard medicine while using state of the art techniques and equipment, as well as providing upstanding customer service"..... I think they have miles to go before they even start to scratch at that ideal. This was a complete failure from CCVC, top to bottom. From the guy answering phones, to the techs, the vets, up to administration. My issues could not have been handled worse. If they continue to treat people and pets like that, their ship will ultimately sink, and rightfully so.

My baby Issabella should have been hospitalized and placed on IV Friday ,knowing full well how sick she was, prescribed her the same meds she was on the previous week and then some , she died the next morning in Bruce Crossing . My baby was not ready to die she had so much life ahead of her ! I will never forgive Dr Vollwrath for letting my baby die !

The staff are always so nice and caring. When looking for the building, first look for the Northern Hardwoods sign near M-26. Turn on the road there off M26 and the sign for CC Vet will be on the drive way on your left
