How to Save Money at VCA North Rockville Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have been coming to this place to take my two puppies, Choco and Latte, to the vet for almost the last 3 years. I have had a very good experience with this VCA, this VCA was recommended by my friend Victoria, (Lily🐶)'s mother, who has been coming here for many years. I really love the ease of being able to ask questions over the phone, being able to have an appointment the same day or the next day (not like in the banfields that take 1 month or more for an appointment) My dogs are a little nervous when it's time to go to the vet but the staff at this place is fantastic, they greet my dogs as if they were their own dogs, in March 2024 VCA did the dental cleaning with anesthesia for my two dogs, I was super nervous because I had never had this experience with this VCA about dental cleaning with anesthesia, but it was fabulous, my dogs' teeth were super clean, my dogs came out calm after their dental cleaning. I really recommend this VCA to anyone who wants to take their dog to the vet, the ladies at the front desk are super friendly, the same for the nurses and doctors. I really like the patience and professionalism of the doctors, who are honest and care about my dogs, which I like a lot. Thank you VCA for treating Choco & Latte well.

This location used to be my favorite spot to take my dog. Not sure if management changed lately but the service I’ve received has completely changed. This location always over charges for everything down to exams, vaccinations, etc. The vets seem to want to push us to spend as much money as possible there and don’t prioritize what’s best for my dog. They make exorbitant recommendations and try to make a buck out of us wherever they can. Even when I just went for a simple rabies vaccination, they charged me for an exam fee when he was just seen by them a few months ago. I went here years ago for the same vaccination and last time they only charged me a technician fee. Will be looking for a new vet asap.

The staff were very friendly and professional. The animal hospital was clean. I gave them a 3 star due to the prices. My fur baby is three years old, and this is the first time I had a bill over $1000. I elected not to get all of the suggested items and only what was required, which was still over $400. I previously went to a vet in GA, and at the most, I may have paid close to $200 for the same things I was charged here. And on, by the way, the items I was charged for are a wellness exam, fecal and blood test, and vaccines. This is ridiculous.

I'm so disappointed I have to change my review but this place has really let me down. My husband went in this week and the receptionist was too busy arguing with a cop over her car being repossessed to bother being polite. They wanted to charge us 700 for something they weren't sure of along with frivolous charges for unnecessary items. I went to the Germantown Vet clinic the next day and got everything my pup needed 150 along with warm and friendly service. They now have a new patient.
