How to Save Money at Happy Tails Veterinary Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

What an amazing experience! I took my dog in for an emergency visit. Dr Butcher and his staff were warm, caring and so gentle with my dog today. Dr Butcher was careful to review all of the info and ask questions to learn about our situation. The staff was wonderful with my dog. They explained each step and made me feel comfortable as well. Procedures and pricing was discussed and explained. All of our options were presented to us and I felt supported in the course of treatment I chose. I’m so glad to know they offer routine veterinary care too! Will definitely be switching veterinary offices to Happy Tails. Thank you all so much for how you took care of my big guy Lincoln today! 🖤

Very good clinic, technicians, and Dr Vera is the best! Because of her care, my Yuki is now 16 years old and still loving his walks and life in general. I expect my 7 yr old Lucky girl to be around that long too, thanks to the excellent care from Happy Tails Vets.

My dog Doom was brought into Happy Tails for vomiting and lethargy. He was quickly taken back and assessed by Dr. Calpeno. X-rays showed he had an intestinal blockage. From the moment I came in it was all hands on deck to get Doom in better shape. He was then taken into surgery (they have a full surgical suite on site) and the team spent four hours removing the obstruction. Everything happened very quickly but they made me feel comfortable and informed throughout the entire process. I knew he was in good hands. Once he was done with surgery Sam (practice manager) sat with me for several hours trying to find affordable 24hr care. The whole team was pitching in to help get him sent to an affordable but great care facility. I cannot thank them enough for the above and beyond efforts they made for my pup and I. I’ve never felt so cared for. Doom is a very lucky man to have had them, as am I. If you want the best care, I definitely recommend Happy Tails.

I first started going to Happy Tails in October of 2024. My 12 yr old pittie girl had infected teeth. From the moment we walked through the door we were greeted with friendly staff. We saw Dr. Calpeno and the initial exam she gave Brooklyn was so thorough! Come to find out, with each visit your companion gets this thorough exam since things can change so quickly! I was impressed with Dr. Calpeno's knowledge! I've had pets all my life and have never met a veterinarian so knowledgeable. Come to find out my girl had heartworms so that needed to be treated before anything else. Dr. Calpeno was concerned about one of the lumps my girl had so during her last days of treatment the doctor discovered that it was cancer. She had her chemo shot last week and is doing well. She goes back in a month for a re-check. Dr. Sebert was my girls' doctor for the heartworm and cancer treatments. She was absolutely wonderful! She called to check on my girl even when she was off work. During all these treatments, the wonderful techs and doctors constantly stayed in touch. They sent messages and pictures of my girl throughout the days she was there. Hopefully the cancer is gone and my sweet girl can have her teeth extractions and cleaning. I highly recommend Happy Tails for your companions needs! I am extremely pleased with every employee there and the amazing care my girl received. I will continue to take my girl to Happy Tails. I am grateful I found them!
