How to Save Money at Fox Chapel Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We initially went with a groupon for our dog who was sick. Our pitbull DeeOhGhee had lymphoma and sadly he passed. Dr.Armie and Dr.Stan Escano are both wonderful and very knowledgeable vets! They both were there went we had to put our baby boy to sleep gave us time to say goodbye and gave us time after as we mourned. We then brought our cats to them as well. Months down the line our very nice friends gave us our new baby girl chocolate lab named Lady Alexandra ovechkin, they are all wonderful and so sweet. All the staff here are here because they love animals! It’s so nice and they have cute dogs themselves! They are beyond nice and wonderful they make you feel like family! Love it so much and always recommend family, my uncle takes his dog here as well! Pictures are of our dogs there and cats (not there they are terrors and spawns of satan at vets) (which they are awesome and very nice to the cats )

This is the best vet I've ever been to! Dctor Armie Escano is amazing and i can't ever thank her enough, she saved my dog life! she truly cares for the animals when everyone else turned their backs on my dog because i didn't have the money to pay for surgery, she didn't, she was truly concern for my dog, if it wasn't for her my dog would have died that same day. she is truly amazing person and the staff is amazing and so kind as well and i highly recommend this vet they are so kind and so heartwarming. i'm forever grateful to have found this place!

If i could give more than 5 stars I would. I usually don't remember to write reviews unless a business makes a significant impact on me, positive or negative. In this case, it is most certainly a positive one. Fox Chapel's staff are all extremely professional. When you walk through the doors, people are engaging and speak to you not just as a customer, but part of the family. A great business for me is one that believes in what they do and Fox Chapel doesn't just hit the mark, they far exceed it. From the administrative folks to the veterinarian, you can tell they care about your loved one(s) and aren't out to just make a buck. We came from a vet, that was a "med pumper" and I strongly believe our youngest one would still be with us today if we had found Fox Chapel sooner. They found some things with our eldest before it could've potentially led to a much worse outcome. I can't express enough how happy I am we switched and look forward to an amazing journey with our fur-baby guardians.

There staff has poor communication I called a day in advance. I specifically asked the front desk would I have to pay two office visit if I’m bringing both my standard poodle for the rabies shots and canine distemper she confirmed with me and told me I would be only be paying for one office visit since I’m bring them together . When I get there they try to tell me I have to pay for 2 office visits I told them I was told I would only have to pay for 1 .The gentleman at the front desk was like “yeah that’s not going to happen I spoke to the girl she said she never said that.” So now I’m being called a liar ? I wouldn’t drive an HOUR to bring my babies to this vet had I known otherwise. I will no longer do business with this vet, they offered no accommodation for me being told false information . What you guys did to me is very unacceptable and made me feel un valued as a customer. You lost a client ! Shame on you guys ! Don’t do business with this VET they are HORRIBLE !!!

Dr Chris and his staff at the clinic are amazing. I believe this is the best experience I have ever had at a vet shop (as I have moved a bunch I think I have experience here!). Not only they are very knowledgeable but I felt a genuine care and love for the animals and tremendous patience in trying to explain everything to the pet owners/parents :). Thank you very much Dr. Chris, my kitten has certainly found her vet!
