How to Save Money at Vitality Veterinary of Swansea
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Took my two 1 year old cats for their first well check to Vitality, as they have a great reputation. Everyone was very nice and helpful. My girls were nervous of course but both the doctor and the vet technician were well prepared. They were gentle and took their time. I'm confident that they're giving the best care to any animal being seen. Highly recommend Vitality!

Been taking my dog to Vitality for 3 years. They just moved to a new location, the rooms are TINY no air circulation, hot and stuffy, so incredibly uncomfortable. They also saw no need to let customers know they had a 45% increase in their exam fee and cytology (don’t know about the other services) not over booking the consultation, the 4+ text reminders or even when you got there, only when you saw the bill. I think that if you’re raising the prices so drastically you should definitely notify and prepare people. Exam went from $65 to $94.

Do NOT trust these people with your pet! Took my 8 month old kitten there for his shots and to plan for neuter. First set of shots we had no issues. Took him for his booster and 4 days later noticed he was walking funny and losing his back legs. Asked if it was possible it was the vaccine and was told most likely not. Had him checked out, and they really couldn't find anything wrong. Did some blood work that he needed for the neuter anyway and told them if he was still like this when he came for the neuter in two weeks that we could do x-rays then. Sent him home with gabapentin. He didn't get better, only got worse. I canceled his neuter letting them know that he now had less use of his hind legs. Disgusted with the place my son who has been a client of theirs for 10+ years took my kitten for a re-check. He was told that they think the vaccine caused the issue, the same vaccine they dismissed me about when I questioned them. Suggested euthanasia and that they would reach out to the vaccine company. I requested his records from them in which NONE of this is documented in his chart. Reached out asking what the status of contacting the vaccine company was. I was told that the vaccine company did not deem it was a vaccine reaction and that I can reach out to them to see if they are able to accommodate me. I spoke with the vaccine company today and they told me that they spoke with someone at this clinic and NOTHING FURTHER was requested from the vaccine company. Are you freaking kidding me???? The vaccine company didn't deem it was not a vaccine reaction...you lied and its documented within the case number that you didn't pursue anything from the vaccine company. I have all of the records and they've been turned over to an attorney. I wouldn't take another animal to this place, ever!!

Our sweet, 17 year old Chihuahua, fur face daughter, Rosie, suffered 10 seizures during the night of 12/23/24. By 8:30 am on 12/24/24, we had brought Rosie to Vitality Vet. The decision was made to end Rosie's suffering as she also was afflicted with congestive heart failure. Sincerely thank you Dr. Harpin, for your expertise, in making Rosie pain free, before and during the procedure. We were able to comfort Rosie, as I held her in my arms and we were able to stay with her as long as we wanted. Taylor, the Vet Tech, was amazing! We will never forget her kindness and compassion. She was so comforting to us in our grief. To anyone, who finds themselves in a similar situation with a beloved pet, I highly recommend Vitality Veterinary of Swansea. They will treat your pet and you with respect and compassion. Thank you Dr. Harpin, Taylor and the entire staff at Vitality Veterinary for 17 years of excellent care. Cindy and Bill
