How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Somerville Veterinary Center

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

They have been wonderful with my kitten. She came to me at five weeks and was tiny. Their guidance has helped my girl become a three pound healthy kitten. They allow her to roam in the exam room and she is chill while waiting. They also obviously love our fur babies.

When I moved to the Boston area I tried a few different vets, including 2 others in Somerville. I just didn't like any of them for different reasons. A friend recommended this place and we've been coming here for about 5 years now. They do a great job! I haven't been able to get to know one vet because we tend to always see a different one and luckily we haven't needed anything too major, but I have always had a good experience. The office staff is always very friendly and helpful and they keep good records. Highly recommended.

The only negative is a lack of parking. The Center has no dedicated parking spots, while parking on the main street is rarely available, and all small streets around are by local permit only. Great experience otherwise. Nice, clean, competent, very responsive.

Great staff. Super empathetic and knowledgeable staff and doctor. Having to put our baby down was one of the hardest things ever, and they mailed us a sympathy card signed by the staff with our baby’s paw imprints!!! We were shocked and cried bittersweet tears; it was something so touching that we never expected to receive from them. Great attention to detail. Highly recommend this place. 🐾

We brought our puppy to Somerville Vet Center and were shocked at the lack of care and information provided to first time pet owners. Our first appointment was incredibly rushed, to the point where the Vet interrupted the Technician who was doing our intake to tell her she had reached her 15 minute limit with us. As first time pet parents, we hoped our vet would be a resource for information, but clearly this was not the case. They also struggled to give our puppy his basic vaccines. They never went over follow up care, and had us schedule another appointment for more vaccines. When we took him to that next appointment, it turned out he didn't need any vaccines. Lastly, the prices are definitely higher than market rates. Any vaccine visit will have a minimum of $50 added for a "wellness check" and the quote we were given for neutering was over twice what other vets in the area cost. Definitely do your research before choosing a vet!
