How to Save on Veterinary Costs at VEG ER for Pets
Preventive care
Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.
Compare prescription pricing
Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.
Consider pet insurance
Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

VEG in Newton is an outstanding facility for veterinary care. Dr. Shayna Kennedy, the vet techs, and the front desk staff handled my emergency promptly, efficiently, and with great compassion. The medical diagnosis, alternatives, and aftercare were carefully and patiently explained. The Medical Report received after the visit was extremely comprehensive. A positive experience at an extraordinarily trying time.

As someone who works as a receptionist in a primary care vets office, we often refer people over to VEG when their pets are sick. Today, I was the one with a pet who needed same-day care, and was so pleased with the experience. I loved getting to be right by my kitty every step of the way, and the entire staff was so kind. They also have very quick care, checked in with us frequently, and helped us to feel as comfortable as possible the whole time!

If you’re looking for a place to take your pet when something is truly wrong — not just for routine care — this is the place. I’ve brought my two Akitas to VEG Newton several times now, and every single time, they’ve reminded me why I’ll never go anywhere else for emergency care. My dogs are my family. After losing my fiancé in the most devastating way in 2024, they became my reason to keep going. They’ve been through it all with me. They’re not just pets — they’re my heart. Our first visit was for my girl, Kyoto. She started having complications from a spay surgery done years ago in another state. Something about this cycle felt wrong. I was anxious and overwhelmed. My aunt sent me VEG’s emergency line, and I decided to give it a try. That call changed everything. I was met with empathy, understanding, and real support. They helped guide me through my concerns and recommended places for follow-up. Eventually, Kyoto was diagnosed with Ovarian Remnant Syndrome — the reason her symptoms had never fully gone away. VEG helped me connect with the MSPCA, where she was able to get the surgery she needed. Thanks to them, her pain finally ended, and we got the answers we had been looking for for years. Then came Akihiko, my boy. First for GI issues, including vomiting blood. I was already driving him to VEG when things took a terrifying turn — he rolled the window down himself and jumped out of my moving car on the highway. I was in complete shock. He limped toward me, and I rushed him the rest of the way to VEG, absolutely panicked. They didn’t hesitate. They brought him in immediately, cared for him with skill and compassion, and walked me through every step calmly while I was falling apart. He needed stitches and close monitoring, and they treated him like he mattered — not just as a patient, but as a living, breathing soul that deserved gentleness and care. We returned again for follow-up care and eventually for stitch removal. I had originally tried to go to a general vet for that, but the experience was so cold and mishandled that I walked out. I called VEG again, desperate, and they told me to come in without hesitation. When I arrived, they welcomed me and my dogs back with kindness. They let me stay with him the whole time. They honored his trauma and anxiety. They made sure we both felt safe. And Heather at the front desk? Incredible. She remembers us. She loves on my dogs every time we walk in. She treats us like more than just a chart or a transaction. My dogs adore her, and so do I. Honestly, everyone at VEG Newton is phenomenal. Every tech, every doctor, every interaction. They are professional, responsive, and most importantly, compassionate. In a world where empathy can feel rare — especially in fast-paced emergency settings — they show up with heart every single time. Thank you for everything you’ve done for me, for Kyoto, for Akihiko, and for helping us through some of the scariest moments we’ve ever had to face. I’ll never forget it

We had a really great experience here after our dog had some complications with his ear infection. We first visited in the evening, and they were really busy with pets who had more urgent needs than our dog. We ended up leaving after waiting for around 2 hours and the staff was incredibly apologetic. They were very transparent about the wait time, which I really appreciated. They definitely prioritize keeping all their patients safe and healthy. I came back the next day when it was much less busy and he was seen to right away since they had capacity. During this second visit, we were in and out within 3 hours. This is definitely one of the nicest vet hospitals I've ever been to and they let you stay with your dog through the entire experience. They also have snacks, water, and coffee if you're there a long time. Our dog is very scared of vets and resistant to having his ears touched at all (to put it mildly) but I never felt like they lost patience with him. I would absolutely recommend this vet and I'm glad to be familiar with an ER vet that is so lovely to all the animals they see.

Dr. Silverstein, Heather and Jake were incredible! They took great care of our pup and kept us updated the entire time that we were in the ER. They were super knowledgeable, compassionate and organized. We couldn’t be more thankful for their help.
