How to Save Money at Bulger Veterinary Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I had to take my 4-year-old fur baby, Scribbles here for an emergency visit. The Veterinarian who took care of my cat was amazing. She was patient with me, as I was distraught and barely functioning. She clearly explained how sick she was and all the possibilities of the quality of life that Scribbles would have for each option we had, none of them would be without her suffering. And when our family chose to put her to sleep she helped reassure us it was OK and the right choice. She was caring, and straightforward with facts but also empathetic.

While being extremely upset about your pets illness and then on top of it. Spending a day calling local vets and told the only people that can help would be this place and have them tell you to figure out payment before the health of the pet goes to show they don’t love the animals . They don’t care if it’s an emergency… they care about you making sure you’re gonna pay them before they help you … it’s a shame that vets don’t actually love animals. They just want your money they over charge and suggest things you don’t need instead of doing the right thing and helping an animal in crisis… meet Brutus… he got turned away today cause I’m disabled and don’t get paid till the third…. He will probably die in my arms in pain and suffering because my life was hard before him and he kept me going and I can’t even return the love.

These people care about what they are doing. They have a very knowledgeable staff. And they are there to help you as much as they possibly can. I highly recommend this place. Thank you for helping me with my dog. He does feel much better now after visiting you.

Really disappointed that this so called emergency vet wouldn’t even see our new cat without animal control holding her for 7 days. Not even to tell us her age or sex. Vets have a duty of care regardless of the animal’s status and this was really sad and upsetting to be literally turned away. We found a stray cat that we want to adopt; they wouldn’t test her for parasites, infections, or even examine a cut she had without animal control holding her for 7 DAYS first. What if she had been in critical condition? What if we weren’t willing to hold on to her until animal control opened two days later? They really should be ashamed of that callousness towards an innocent cat. For all we know, she could be someone’s missing pet. Editing my review to reply to the erroneous response below: my cat was NOT seen through your emergency center as you refused to see her. Animal control has stated there is no 7 day holding policy for cats. So I still cannot understand why you refused to see her. Emergent care is needed for strays regardless of status before being brought into a person’s home who already has a cat ( as I do, as stated to your staff). She has no microchip and has been posted in several community groups and by the MSPCA. Due diligence is being done, but you wouldn’t even look at her to treat a cut she had or deworm her in the meantime. Shameful. Don’t lie about “laws”, what laws are you following here?
