How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Franklin Veterinary Clinic

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

Unfortunately, the practice has undergone significant changes since COVID, but it doesn't seem to have fully readjusted to its previous state. There have been shifts in staffing, availability, and operating hours, with the clinic already being very, very busy. While a bustling and popular practice can be appealing, it doesn't necessarily equate to superiority over other options. One notable change is that pet owners are no longer allowed to accompany their dogs inside for appointments. Perhaps this new approach, with a vet nurse (technician) greeting you at your car, conducting a quick intake, and then taking your pet while you wait in the car, is intended to streamline the process. However, I found that the human element of not being present during appointments or in the lobby was not for me. Conservatively, 35% of communication is verbal and 65% non-verbal, and missing the non-verbal aspect was also a poor fit for me. It's important to acknowledge the significant mental health challenges that veterinarians face, including a higher prevalence of suicide, often stemming from the stress and demands of their profession. Additionally, there has been a shortage of vets since COVID that affected clinics, which may have contributed to the new business practices and changes implemented by this clinic. The veterinarian communicates findings and discharge instructions after examining the pet. Sometimes, the vet or nurse brings the pet back to the car. I left the practice a few years ago due to the new practices, procedures, and office changes not aligning with my needs. However, it's worth noting that the doctors at Franklin Vet were excellent, at least during my time there, and I can't take that away from them. If you can adapt to the changes, it's worth giving it a try. Personally, I found excellent care elsewhere.

Franklin Veterinary Clinic and their staff members are amazing. We have been somewhat unlucky when it comes to "what else can go wrong" with our pets. Franklin Veterinary Clinic has been incredibly kind and helpful throughout every step of our journey. We literally do not know what we would do without them. Grateful is an understatement.
