How to Save Money at Metairie Small Animal Hospital - Marigny Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This is one of the best vet clinics I’ve ever been to! All the staff is super thoughtful, thorough, and take excellent care of my pet. Easy to access services there other locations for X-rays, scans, etc. in Metairie. Highly recommend.

This is my regular vet office, which I have been very happy with since they opened. I have been bringing my dog every month to get a bath there. The lady that is working today told me that they have never done baths there the regular two ladies that work there were off ones on vacation one was off, so she’s filling in but she was rude. She was belligerent unprofessional should not be working in customer service. She tried arguing with me when I was just trying to set an appointment to get my dog his bath. She was adamant that they do not do baths there and I was explaining to her that I have been getting my dogs a bath there every month on Wednesdays before 9 AM And she says you are wrong. You do not know what you’re talking about and hung up the phone so I walked over to the office and I went and asked her her name and I wanted to write this yelp and Google review I believe she should be released to pursue other financial opportunities

Charges exorbitantly high rates. $72 for exam, which I called my last vet and this place is charging 50% more for an exam. It's located next to the new Starbucks. Got into a room and seen fairly quickly. During that fancy exam they couldn't drain the blood from her ear but sent me home with fancy ear cream $60. Also $54 for testing if she has an infection, nope she doesn't have one. Oh I didn't tell you how much the test would be before, oh well, that's how much it costs. That's my review. Also wasn't provided a receipt at check out because the system something something.. had to call the next day for the receipt. Like, what are the prices and why aren't they disclosed before procedure??

Today I took my cat in for her first check up. I was immediately greeted by a very friendly receptionist and a hand written sign listing the pets names who had appointments that day. The waiting room was spotless. I was quickly taken to a private room where my cat was examined with gentle and loving care. They even opened up a can of wet food to help calm her down! I’m so thankful that this veterinary clinic opened up in the Marigny, but what really makes it stand out are the people who work here. I never felt rushed; The doctor and nurse went out of their way to make sure that all of my cats medical needs were taken care of, and that she was comfortable and relaxed. I’m truly grateful for the addition of this clinic to the neighborhood.

To be honest, I really do not have any complaints! The first time I took my older cat Nala here I did have a staff member give me quite the scare when she was telling me that the issue (peeing outside the litter box) could be due to cancer without having even taken her out of her carrier. However, the care that was given to her was outstanding and the Vet that called me later in the afternoon was so friendly and answered all of my questions. Becky at the front desk is so sweet. Recently when I called about bringing in my other cat Momo she was so sweet and quick to get me in for a drop off visit the next day. (This is where if there is not an appointment you have the option of dropping off your animal between 7:30A-9:00A so they can be seen in between appointments!) I will also say that this vet is fairly priced. It is very affordable and they are upfront about their prices and cost! I will certainly be brining my pets here from now on!
