How to Save Money at Greater Cincinnati Veterinary Specialists and Emergency Services
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
If you’re wondering where to take your pet for specialized care, GCVS is it. My dog was the unfortunate victim of a horrible dog attack, and after a few months of non-healing wounds and visiting with multiple specialists in the area, we found Dr. Bruner. She is incredible! She’s very obviously knowledgeable and is the only doctor that got my pup out of a very dark and painful journey. I also can’t leave this review without giving a shout out to the vet technicians that have been working closely with Odie. They are AMAZING! Extremely compassionate and went out of their way to squeeze him in for his therapy appointments. I will rave about my experience until the cows come home - Thank you, GCVS!!!

Over priced, over priced, over priced. After I refused a few items my bill went down just over 600 for 2xrays and 2 not needed prescriptions. Dog swallowed a chicken bone and they wanted to convince us $3800 was 2 or 3 times cheaper than anywhere else and they could remove it for that amount. They really swung for the moon with us. Hope your visit is better but beware!

Zero Stars. Our diabetic dog had a seizure. That is not normal. He was acting fine, but as a precaution, we wanted to make sure it was an isolated incident. This involved blood glucose test. A full blood panel and urinalysis was recommended and we agreed. We advised per his treatment plan, that he eats at 7pm and gets his second daily insulin dose right after. This process took over FIVE HOURS. Our dog was separated from us this entire time. Which is completely unacceptable for a multitude of reasons. Nearing the 5hr mark, we advise we need to go. He’s been here long enough, you should have the specimens you need, just call us with the results. My husband had to practically beg for our dog to be returned to us. Finally, I call after reading his frantic text messages. I was more than firm with the I assume “manager”? that answered the phone, and she very condescendingly informed me they’d release him with an AMA (against medical advice form), without any medications, and that this is an E-R, it takes time.. all of this was said very slowly, I’m sure to make sure I understood… Our senior, diabetic dog is isolated from us in some mysterious room, scared, exhausted and likely getting very hungry as time went on and they gave zero care to my husbands many requests to return him. Once our dog was finally returned to us, the catheter was left in his paw and still needed to be removed….. I have already reported them to the state veterinary board for their negligence. We paid $635 for our dog to be held against our wishes. No medication administered, (but noted it was “refused” because we didn’t want to wait an additional three hours for that), no changes in his condition, nothing but a note that his blood work wasn’t alarming.. Bloodwork can be done for less a lot less than $400, elsewhere, where animals are actually treated and not forgotten in a back room for hours on end because they were “busy”. I hope the lady with the German Shepard that needed two stitches and waited for nearly as long as we did found her way elsewhere. Wish the same to any future potential customers, definitely not patients. **edit after clinics response: there is no proof anyone was monitoring Bandit as we weren’t permitted with him in the area ourselves. It seems highly unlikely if the clinic was as busy as we were told. No alternative diet was offered, nor should’ve been offered to a dog with such restrictions. Once the tine constraints were made known, as you stated, we shouldn’t have had to plead and demand to have him returned to us for the next hour following that. I believe we were overcharged, neglected, and treated extremely poorly. No one should have to repeatedly ask to have their pet returned to their care. No excuses in that, or the catheter being left in his leg. The only care that was needed was insulin to bring his blood sugar down, which was delayed by the failure of the clinic to retrieve him from some mystery back room. Even then, it only happened (and quickly), because I stated he cannot be legally withheld from us. No animal should have to pay for a clinics poor time management.

After reading mixed reviews here, I just did not have a bad experience at all. I have dealt with Dr Campbell twice, with 2 different dogs in the past 3 months....while I did loose my Staffy Khaos in November to Cancer which was unknown and it was too late to save him, she was very compassionate, patient, explained everything in detail, step by step, gave me all the time in the world to spend with him...Then I ended up back there a couple months later with my new Cane Corso puppy (7 weeks old) Apollo, that I only had for 2 days who was dealing with parasites and who tested positive for Parvo....she saved my baby boys life...He was in her care for 5 days and made a full recovery....and again was patient, quick thinking, double checked, sympathetic, compassionate...kept me updated daily.....I also had the pleasure of having Dr Hogan for a couple of days when Dr Campbell was not there....same experience with her...oh and I can't forget all the vet tech's....I spoke with so many but all were great....Baffa, Tyler, Pam, to name a few....Katie at the front desk was quick to accommodate me as well....I cannot name them all but I hope they all know how grateful I really am for taking care of Apollo....it def was a team effort...and everyone exceeded my expectations...Apollo has been home for 2 days and is doing wonderful...takes his meds, eats lots of food, drinking his water, keeping warm, playful and is really very happy pup considering what he went through the first couple months of his life....I have trusted this team from the beginning and would trust this team to the fullest in the future....Thank you all❤️

We brought our cat, Taco, in to emergency due to a severe URI and a bad reaction or the oral meds our primary vet gave us. (No fault to them, he was just not in condition to take oral meds). We gave him the meds & he instantly started foaming at the mouth. I was inconsolable. Screaming & sobbing. My boyfriend looked for an ER in the area and found this place. I am BEYOND grateful to these workers for coming into work that day and being there for me and my fur baby in our time of need. They handled everything with care & compassion. There was a critical patient before us, but they still made sure Taco was stable before leaving us to wait. Turns out he just couldn’t breathe and inhaled the oral meds. They didn’t make us feel like we overreacted and were transparent with us about pricing and treatment options. I thought the pricing for the services we received was very fair. Due to the other critical patient, we waited 2 hours before Taco was seen. Which we were totally fine with (still sooner than waiting for our primary to open), but they still checked on us every now and again and brought us waters during our wait. Thank you once again to this kind, caring, and compassionate staff. Remember, having a pet is a privilege not a right. These people don’t have to show up and work these late hours of the night, but they do so because they care. Remember that next time you & your fur baby are in need.
