How to Save Money at Lone Oak Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Friendly staff. I brought some of my other dogs here and this place is amazing at treating animals. Had to bring my little Sassy here cause she is sick. She ended up having parvo and the staff showed us how to administer her medicine. They are so wonderful.

I would suggest staying away from this clinic. I rescued a stray 6 week old kitten on a Friday night and Monday morning I took him into this vet clinic. They checked him for ear mites, worms, and fleas.. Let me mention I also voiced to them that I had never had a cat, so I was going to need a little more education. She looked at him and told me that he had fleas and then looked in his ears and said that he had mites and what looks like an ear infection. They only did the test for worms at that time. I waited and waited for the vet to come back in and explain the results, but she never came back. Another lady came in a little while later who was actually the front desk clerk and asked me if I was ready to check out. I said, “well no one has even come back in to tell me what is going on. Are we going to treat the fleas/mites/ear infection? What about the test results?” She proceeded to look at the computer and said, “well, it doesn’t look like there’s worm.. oh wait, yeah maybe there is. Let me go get someone actually.” A different vet then came in and gave me a topical medication and said, “this should take care of everything.” Well, now that I’m more knowledgeable I know that is just not true. Didn’t provide me with any information on diet, vaccinations, further care, follow up.. nothing. What about dewormer?? Of course I had to find out later that he still indeed had worms.. and ear mites! He later had to have an ear wash that took care of them.. Fast forward a week and I notice there are still fleas. I give him a dawn bath and there are TONS. I call them back to let them know and all they told me to do was bath him and buy this product off Amazon to control infestation of fleas in my home. I felt very judged from the minute I stepped foot in this office and I am not sure why… And the staff was very uncompassionate. Look, I am a healthcare professional and would like to think I am a pretty good person who was just trying to do the right thing for this kitten. It seems like to me they just took advantage of the fact I was uneducated on cats and just wanted my money. My bill ended up being $150 and for what? Medication and poor care? Needless to say I took him to another vet who took excellent care of him and saw what a sweet boy that he is. 4 months later I now I have a very happy, healthy, spoiled, cuddly kitten. Here’s Leon now :) And no thanks to you for helping us get here. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!

Excellent animal care with easy access for all services. Sometimes there may be a bit of a wait because of the heavy volume. I usually wait if I have time or come back later. They have cared for 3 of our fur-babies over the past 10 years. I love the care you get and you can buy prevention care online with them that ships to your door.

Very pleased with how they treated Gabriel . I walked into the clinic for the first time after moving from Evansville. They were very friendly to Gabriel and I. He had gotten attacked by something and his cheek looked bad etc. They examined him and told me he would need to be sedated due to the injury. They came out and explained everything to me and told me when they had shaved him the injury was much worse. They gave me antibiotics and cream to put on him and keep him out of sun until it's healed. I'm very pleased with how well they took care of him and he's actually looking a lot better from when he first went in. I definitely will go back to this clinic.

Walk in clinic. First walk in is at 8 am but the clinic opens at 7:30 for drop off patients. I like to get there at 7:30, so I can be first on the waiting list and get back at 8am. If you want to see the same doctor you’ve seen before, they will accommodate for you but you might have to wait longer. My dogs have seen Dr. Rodger and Dr. Winn and I thought both doctors were great. I definitely would recommend this clinic to others. Being a walk a clinic makes it convenient if your pet needs to be seen that day, but you usually have to wait between 45 minutes to 2 hours depending on how busy they are. Front desk people are friendly and helpful.
