How to Save Money at Paola Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Very clean facilities. Knowledgeable and caring staff. Took my mom's dog there an hour before they closed on a Saturday on an emergency call. She had to have surgery and came out perfect! We never had to worry as they kept in contact every step of the way! This and the Louisburg location are both wonderful and very reasonably priced!

I had a 7 year old Australian Shepherd named "Precious". She was every bit of that name and some. Beautifully natured and very loving very special in many ways. I have never been there before and Precious was sick. I went in there knowing I would get some medicine and walk out and she would be great again. I walked out without her forever. Her blood tests showed multiple organs were already shutting down rapidly. She had no strength and it took 30 minutes and she couldn't walk. The lady doctor and her staff were graciously wonderful. I was devastated completely and that I would not let her suffer and had no choice but to send her to heaven. I was being needy asking questions trying to hear that I had a chance to save her and she would live. No way around that at all. Her body was going extremely fast. The lady vet and her front corner desk lady was every thing that you could imagine trying to help me through this. The doctor had 3 other patients waiting on her and I had no clue they were there. Her sole attention was my dog and me. The lady in the front corner window desk was awesome. She sat with me the whole time on the floor with my dog talking to me while I was thinking of what to do with my dogs life. But like I was saying before her body was shutting down extremely fast and I told her I won't let her suffer and it's time. I can't do this to her. The lady got up and went and pulled the doctor from a patient to let her know where we stood. The dog needed to be put down fast before she started hurting. The vet put every thing to the side except Precious to make sure she didn't start getting into pain. Meanwhile the other lady was still there and was there until the very end. Very sympathetic people at this office and showed great empathy for a first time customer with a dying dog. And I mean they all showed and spoke with great empathy. The secretary at the front desk was also very caring and very loving too. I had a phone call on their phone from my father and she left her customers and brought me her phone in the room I was in and closed the door so quietly. If someone reading this needs to send their dog to Heaven, then this office is a great loving and caring place to come to. I want to thank every single one of you for helping me through that painful experience. All of you were so AWESOME.

2 recent encounters with this Vet Clinic within 3 weeks (one older pup crossed the rainbow bridge and a much younger pup had surgery). In both cases the staff was amazing (caring & thoughtful). Our family would highly recommend Paola Vet Clinic ❣
