How to Save Money at Animal Wellness Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Cannot speak highly enough of this vet - we are literally hesitating to move next year simply because we can't take them with us. Dr. Todd is one of the nicest human beings on the planet and his team is amazing. I can't overstate how above and beyond they have gone for us as we've had a struggling kitty the last 6 months. If it weren't for them, she wouldn't be with us, but today she was sent home happy and healthy after a long fight. THANK YOU.

My dog looks and smells much better, but I don't know why you didn't do the exam as discussed. I came in with my little dog late May and I talked to 2 different women at the check in and asked that my big boy have an exam done today so that we can get his flea prevention medicine. They both assured me it would happen and the medicine was on sale! Husband picked him up today and it was only $40. It was so cheap because they didn't do an exam and he couldn't get his medicine! Why would you do this?! I don't understand.

Dr. Todd and his staff are absolutely the best. After being diagnosed with a grade III heart murmur from our standard vet, I was told my 5 year old anxious/aggressive dog would need to go to a Cardiologist and spend thousands on tests and scans. Skeptical, I did some digging and was recommended to Dr. Todd from a trusted source, even though we are out in Chicago, IL. About a year and a half ago, I set up an initial phone consultation, and was sent some supplements to my house to try to help curb any side effects. When we finally made the 3hr drive out to Animal Wellness Center, the staff was kind and welcoming (even though I almost missed the hour time change) and the space was clean and open. My dog often lunges and barks at strangers, which can lead to stressful vet visits, but Dr. Todd was relaxed and patient enough to make everyone feel at ease. I am happy to report that my dog no longer has the murmur or any other signs of health problems! Combine with training, diet change, and seeing Dr. Todd, this girl is happier and healthier than ever!

My family has always taken our animals to this place. We have pretty much always had a pretty good experience until recently. Some would I guess be my fault because we thought our cat was just being herself and being a loner. We took her in with a cyst on her face in May he took care of it because he said it wasn't cancer. Two months later right before labor day weekend we noticed she lost weight really fast,he said she was dehydrated and her gave her a shot to last her over the weekend and bring her back if not better and we could get labs done on her. We took her back he said that her kidney markers was slightly high but he felt that the dehydration worried him the most. He gave her another shot to last her through the weekend.Mandy handed us a card to call for after hours if something was to happen. I thought that was great.. thought wrong no one returns your calls or even acknowledges you left voice-mails. I feel very let down because that lemon of a Secretary Amber with the nasty attitude and long brown hair. Never passed my message on that it was serious and I needed to speak to someone. She will forever be blamed as A reason why my cat suffered. I called back the next day and finally got the older pleasant Amber and she took care of me and had me on the phone with Mandy quick like. By this time I already knew my baby girl was going to die but no one truly offered any kind of extra care to try and save her. I asked if they could give her iv treatment something. I was told I could bring her in today. She didn't make it long enough today. Today she died 😢 💔 Yes I know death happens but it seems as if Amber is only there for the paycheck. This is not the first time I've had words about her and to her, with all her rude and snooty comments. So this is my message for Dr.Todd and Mandy thank you all for what we did get for Khloey but I have currently backed away from that office because of her attitude and the eye rolling like she is 12. That's why you no longer see charlee for his nail clippings much because he goes to pet supplies plus so my pets and I don't have to deal with her. As for the rest of my furfam I don't know if they will return or not. It doesn't seem like saving a life matters much to this office
