How to Save Money at Animal Hospital of Bedford
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I love this freaking place. There price are great. The vets and the techs are the best. They will answer any question you have. When I say this is the best vet place within 100 miles in any direction. I have been to many many different vets places and Animal Hospital of Bedford stands alone.............. I have guinea pigs 14 and 1 rabbit and 1 dog. The exotic vet there I forgot her name but she is 1 in a million. I can go on and on with how great this place is

My fiancé and I had to bring in our fur baby Nemo last minute, yesterday, I called at 10:30am and they had our boy in at 2pm the same day and set up an emergency surgery for a blockage he had in his intestines, they went above and beyond keeping us reassured that he was doing okay, and explains each step of the process. Very very thankful for everyone there!

I brought my golden doodle in on Friday September 27, for a pre-exam Neuter appointment that was supposed to take place today. He got a rabies and a parvo shot. He was a completely healthy dog. Everyone at the office on Friday was great. I called the office this morning (September 30) at 8:00 am as soon as they opened to let them know that my dog had started throwing up on Saturday night and had not stopped so we would have to reschedule his surgery. They told me to bring him back in for a follow up regarding the shots he received and we could do further testing. After testing and some blood work, we discovered Knox had parvo. The girl at the front desk was very rude and made a scene about him having parvo. She said “did you wash your hands after you touched him? You’re leaning all over my counter and you are contaminating everything. We see a lot of puppies. Go wash your hands.” I also had a 3 month old puppy that was perfectly fine Saturday morning, and died by Sunday evening. Both of my dogs seemed fine until our visit to the vet. I did not appreciate being treated like an idiot and like it was my fault my dog had parvo. Once again, BOTH dogs were healthy until the trip to the vet.I filled out care credit to pay the $1300 bill for his week stay and was told “fill out the application in your car.” 😒 The doctor is nice. Staff needs work. When I picked my dog up after 4 days in the hospital, he was covered in his own poop and puke. I was told they were unable to wash him because of parvo. After being sent home after 4 days of treatment, I had to return him 2 days later in worse condition. I was told on Monday he was doing much better and responding to antibiotics, then another vet called me at work on Tuesday morning and said “we’re sorry. Your dog died overnight”. This was another $500. This ENTIRE experience was horrible. Dr Cruz was great, but I will never EVER bring another animal back here again. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.

The staff was so so amazing! I was so worried about my dog and they were so awesome! Dr. Brown checked my dog from head to toe and I couldn’t have asked for better care! We will definitely be going back! I recommend them to everyone!
