How to Save Money at Amber Leaf Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We have had such positive experiences with Amber Leaf. The entire staff, from the front desk to the vets and the assistants, they are beyond friendly and helpful. They never rush us when we have questions and I feel their pricing is reasonable. They treat our Pit so well and don't judge him based off his breed. We love Amber Leaf and can't recommend them enough!

The family vet I have been taking my fur babies to for years and will continue to take for years to come. Highest level of service and always willing to go out of their way to try and squeeze you in if you need it. The only people I trust to take care of the ones I love. Thank you!!

OMG! Okay I brought my dogs here for vet visits and although I was extremely kind and generous to their staff a few women in particular (Sue and Kelsey) were extremely rude and unprofessional to me. We complained directly to the doctor himself who then began conjuring all manner of excuses he could muster to excuse his office managers poor performance and rude behavior! They are under pressure and I guess that gives them permission to become abusive and intolerant. Instead of addressing the problem and speaking with his staff he sends me a pink slip. There can never be any justification for rude comments from an employee even if they are management. Even more importantly! After sending the Dr a personal thank you card for seeing my dog on a Saturday morning and informing me on how God answers prayers he sends back my card stating no such address. They went out of their way to be spiteful. So they did me a huge favor and I am truly grateful to them. This speaks volumes and sends a strong message. This was a true blessing in disguise. Whenever I’d call their office Sue and Kelsey would treat me like I was so poorly but what do you expect when you employ trailer trash. They’d answer the phone and when it was me they’d say, “Oh” as if I was disturbing them. If you have a personal problem ya need to leave it at home and not bring it into the office. They fail in the communication department as their staff doesn’t give the doctors the messages. No one knows what anyone is doing. It takes four calls to get one return phone call and then it seems as if you are bothering them. I complained about the staff and instead of addressing the problem and correcting their staff or the problems they are having they just eliminate me. They can’t accept criticism of any kind and are extremely defensive. An office manager with a bad attitude who oversees herself! How do you like that? I’m so very upset and disappointed in their conduct and time again with their lack of service and their lack of attention to my dogs. I’m utterly disgusted. Their doctors pose under a rouse and pretend to care but they revealed their true colors to me. My money is good anywhere and I just found another veterinarian right near my house!!! They were respectful and I got an appointment for next week without any problems or an attitude! I’m so glad I didn’t tolerate such egregious behavior. Unfortunately I cannot in good conscience recommend this establishment. If you’re considering taking your loved and cherished pets to these unprofessional rude people here is my advice. Run like your the last two monkeys boarding Noah’s Ark and it’s starting to rain! You’ve been warned folks! Enter at your own risk!!!! It’s a hard no from me!!!!

Veterinary practice with great reputation in the community. I've brought my dogs here for the last 10+ years for health visits and now grooming. In the good times and the bad, staff has always been kind and professional. I highly recommend Amber Leaf for all your pet's needs.
