How to Save Money at Tri County Animal Emergency Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Words cannot express how grateful we are for the staff at Tri County Animal Hospital. Without the dedication of Dr. Whiteside and all of the staff that assisted, our dog would not have made it through the night. We are truly grateful to you for saving her life. You all are compassionate, understanding, and skilled. There's nothing we could do to repay you for what you did. -The Spangler's & Sugar

We run cat rescue and had pretty ill cat. A vet from Whitney Vet, Dr Meyers was on staff and was amazing with our foster cat. Efficient and explained everything. Sunny did great in surgery and we took him home that night and he is healthy and ready for his furever home very soon. The bill was actually less than I was quoted and seemed overall fair. I do wish the facility did not have such a prison look and feel. Could use a remodeling. All staff was kind and helpful

My mom and I had to come to this vet for the very first time for our cat on April 16th. She was very ill and we sadly had to euthanize her that night. It was a very hard choice to make. The staff and vet we had were very compassionate and brought the news about our baby girl gently. They gave us plenty of time with her to say goodbye also kindly answered all our questions we had. They were very understanding about our financial situation and helped us be able to afford everything including cremation. This Emergency Vet is amazing and will take care of your fur babies.

Zero stars. Dr. Mark Larson was the veterinarian filling in and that I was unlucky enough to get when I had to rush my Yorkie to the emergency animal hospital in Peoria. He was extremely cold & did nothing to help save my dog. They were ready to euthanize my dog as soon as we walked in. They were not busy, nor was there anyone else in the clinic at the time. God only knows what they really did to or with my dog in the back. They did not do a good job of informing us of all options. They wanted to quickly have us sign this & that & seemed more worried about making money than doing a thing to save my dog. DO NOT take you pets to this man. He should not have a license! Instead of helping my dog or tending to his wounds they were focused on probably the least of his injuries. As a result of that sedation, there was no coming back for my beloved dog. They knew that! & they knew full well it’s not what I wanted. They should have offered an alternative. They killed my dog. He just turned 10, was healthy as could be & had just had his annual checkup. He should have had another 5-10 years left in him being a small dog! Not a thing wrong with him. I do believe he could have fought through his injuries & survived - had they actually HELPED us. I wish we’d never taken him into that clinic. I’ll never go there again nor will I ever forgive myself for failing my dog.

TLDR: This is an euthanasia facility where they do not have empathy or good will. They will audibly mock you while you are present. Yea idk the lower star reviews resonate with me more than the higher ones. Long story short if you come here with a sick animal they will give you low quality service, juggle you between 3 other patients with the vet, and act with out good faith. We told the vet the pet had anxiety with the vet. They sedated it with more medicine than anyone acting in good faith would. Did not even consider any fluid before doing so. On every visible wall they want to remind you that $135-175 is due immediately after you appointment plus any other tests performed. Reasonable only if the quality of service matched. If you value your loved ones please see their regular, more professional, and more helpful vets early. ♥️ Key words: compassionate price night pay job wound dollars seizure waste blood work x-ray
