How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Banfield Pet Hospital

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

Getting to Know Your Veterinarian

Choosing a veterinarian is an important decision for pet parents. A strong vet relationship is built on trust, communication, and understanding your pet’s individual needs.

Experience

Ask whether the clinic has experience treating your specific type of pet, since care can vary between dogs, cats, and pocket pets.

Emergency Care Procedures

It’s helpful to understand how the clinic handles after-hours emergencies, including whether they provide emergency services or refer to nearby emergency hospitals.

Communication Preferences

Ask how the clinic communicates with pet parents, including updates, test results, and follow up questions.

Breed Specific Health Considerations

Some breeds may be more prone to certain health conditions. Early awareness can help with prevention and early treatment.

This year the service has been awful. Now, it doesn’t matter if you have the best wellness plan they offer, they are including in every visit a “vet fee” whenever they want, so you truly never know how much you are going to pay. For example. Health certificate is written as included in the wellness plan, I did not pay any extra fees for this in the past, but now they added a “vet fee” of $83.00 plus taxes So be aware of these “vet fees” because they can add them wherever they want no matter your plan

It was a very good experience from the beginning to the end. Moving from Arizona back to Chicago was a monumental task and knowing we were able to get the same great care for our Ernie that we received in Arizona was a big relief. Thank you to Banfield Pet Hospital!

Horrid place. Made an appointment for Bullitt my German Shepherd, drove 40 minutes to get there and they say you have to leave her.... for 6 hours! So much for having an appointment. The vet did NOT help my dog and the medications were not correct even when we suggested that she might need antibiotics. Bullitt's condition got worse over the next 48 hours and I took her to an animal hospital where she was treated correctly. Avoid this place if you love your pet.

Favorite Banfield so far. 2023: still the favorite Banfield. Always a good experience here. Dr. Johnson and team makes it an easy and peaceful experience for the human and the dog. Thank you all for your great work!

The 2 instances I had with this Vet at this location have been unhelpful, frustrating and I leave empty handed and he really just seems to want to make money with unnecessary procedures. With both of my cats all he seemed to recommend was biopsies that would have caused much trauma to both of them. I went to see other Banfield vets and called an ER hotline and their plan care was complete opposite. I tried to avoid this location but my cat was hurt and he was the first one available. I left with no plan of care on what to do with an open wound on one of his paws and all he told me was "let's do a biopsy on both front paws." Thankfully I got squeezed into another Banfield Vet that gave me answers and a plan of what to do without causing any trauma to my kitties.
