How to Save Money at Ulm Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I so appreciate the fact that everyone in the building knows my name and my dogs name, feels like family...oh right, for me, it is! The care given to my girl is as if she belongs to them.

Important !!

This office is ran quite interesting to say the least! I HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND FOR YOUR PETS! If things are perfectly aligned& you only need “check ups”or“positive visits”this office seems to be accepting of their patients& pets! The moment ur pet is NEEDING MORE CONCERNING/LIFE THREATENING CARE the office DOESN'T deliver! They become dismissive& short, DONT preform the correct testing or any extensive care. They show 0 compassion& TRUST in a time when you& ur pet need them most. This is why we have vets, to help us in times of need! To care about our pets as much as we do, express care& bring comfort! To do everything possible to care for that pet& be HONEST with Owners! They DONT do care in the room with YOUR pet, you dont know what care they are or arnt providing but ur paying for! Dr is nice to ur face but is evident she is dismissive/judging& clearly has a extremely difficult time caring for sick animals in higher need or dying! She will NOT tell you your pet is dying (stated from multiple people) Instead of the CARE of our pets the dr & staff DONT show extra concerns/comfort measures for ur pet when needed. In ur time of need& hurt staff are quite ruthless, rude, judgy, dismissive &cocky with every comment🙄heaven for bid you have concerns or want to hear from the Dr herself. That oh so TRUSTING staff you HAVE to tell your pets needs to first before even getting to talk(if you do)with the dr! That treatment really makes me wanna talk to the staff instead of the dr. (specifically/especially the red head girl) Icing on the cake, this is the ONLY vet heard of& has enough nerve& disrespect to“FIRE”(yup you heard right😂)FIRE their pets& owners🤔If this doesnt scream the Dr is💲just fine 😂💸 EXPENSIVE! Taking full advantage of being the only vet in town! How compassionate is that! When questioning “fired”was explained very unprofessionally& dismissive as I didnt deserve to be informed of &unaware it occurred🤔Typically the client“fires”the business & usually vets are happy to see returning & new pets! When requesting to talk with the manager/dr they refuse & do NOT return phone calls!😂wonder why!? When your pet does die & you still have all the money hungry supplies (they knew I would not use & just didn’t tell me & instead took even more money🙄) don’t worry they will offer you a “CREDIT” 😂even when it’s now showing FIRED🤔how do I use my credit then?!? Especially when not informed of being “fired”but still quick to credit me! What about when you don’t have other pets! Cuz that’s useful huh! Staff also opens some supplies in office for you..don’t worry they refuse to let you return them even though you purchased them only hours before & did not ask them to open & are useless to you! 👏🏼Job well done! 😂 Way to be the only known vet who has 0 problems charging for visit after visits when things just arnt quite right with a pet knowing that the pet is dying. & not only, NOT offering or do the PROPER care (fluids in office for 3 days, sonograms for observation of the insides, proper food in a distressed dying pet knowing food was making him worse, hydration, the list continues) but is not TRUSTING & HONEST for their own services(but claiming that on the owner😂guilty much)! Pretending the pet was not passing & not provide sick pet care! & most definitely DID NOT in any way, shape or form even hint or be honest & tell the owner the pet was dying & absolutely would not get better! Instead provided false hope, more discomfort for the pet with multiple needle sticks & forcing food (being told that is what would make the pet better) & lots of broken hearts not prepared for the inevitable! Now this is DISHONEST! Maybe you should rethink your ways of dealing with passing pets & proper care & be able to be HONEST with owners! & don’t even get me started on the “fired” insanity you have in place towards innocent pets! All for going to a HOSPITAL VET PER YOUR FAILURE TO PROPERLY CARE! My dog matters more than you! Get over yourselves!🙄✌🏼it’s ok, I will recommend Whitney hospital to anyone reading this!
